To all whom it may concorre:

The blank for the bucket is cut from sufficiently tough paper for the purpose, in the shape shown in Fig. 1, and is then creased by the lines shown in Fig. l, to form a bottom, sides, side folds, and top cover of the bucket.

The sections f, g, are folded together inwardly, so as to bring the side edges of parts cc, in contact with the side edges of parts l), b, and these side folds f, g, are then folded over outside of the parts b, b, and secured thereto by the ends of the Wire bail h, in the usual and customary way, so that the bucket will stand in the position shown in Fig. 2.

This feature of reinforcing the parts 70,]5, by these pieces Z, fl, forms one of the principal features of my invention.
Between the top portions 7c., 7o, andthe side folds g, g, are additional folds m, fn, of the shape shown in Fig. l. Slots p, p, are cut in the two folds m, m, on the one side, and notches r, r, are cut in the corresponding folds m, m, on the other side. Then the side folds f and g are folded over and fastened to the sides b, b, by the Wire bail, it is evident that this folding vvill bringv parts fm and m on each side together where they will overlap as shown by the dotted lines in Fig. 2. This over-lapping will cause the slots 19,19, and the notches r, fr, to come together and register with each other. When these side extensions are thus brought together, a strip of tin t, is hooked within the slots 19,29, and bent over, so as to fasten ythe extensions together, while another strip of tin cf, is secured across the ends of the notches fr, r. are made sufficiently deep to leave an opening or slot 10 and the strip of tin t has its outer end bent oyer to form a hook y. ' that the side extensions to the top are then folded down over this top and locked to hold the cover in place; While these side eXten- Sions m and n are old in buckets of this description, I believe that it is new to secure the locking device on the side extensions.

This I am enabled to Vdo by reason of the reinforcement of the top portions lo, 7c, because in my bucket these top portions completely inclose the contents of the bucket and the Side portions can therefore be used to fold outside and to hold the lock for the cover. Where the top portions are not reinforced, this cannot advantageously be done. It is also Aextremely desirable in the manufacture of paper buckets of this kind, that the blanks for the buckets shall be cut from a large sheet of paper and that as little of the paper shall be wasted as possible.
It will be noticed by an examination of Fig. 1, that although I have succeeded in forming the side folds m, n, so that when they are brought together they will form a horizontal line at their upper edges, no paper is Wasted in thus cutting the blank.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
l. An oyster bucket, having a bottom and four sides, with side folds between the sides, and provided with top covers attached to two opposite sides, with additional reinforcing pieces secured to the top covers substantially throughout their length and breadth and eX- tending beyond Athe free outer edges thereof, to reinforce and stiden the same, substantially as shown and described.
2. An oyster bucket, having a bottom, four sides, and side folds between the sides, provided with top covers attached to opposite sides, with additional reinforcing pieces secured to the top covers substantially throughout their length and breadth and extending beyond the free outer edges thereof, to reinforce the same, and having side Wings attached to the sides of the top covers and the adjacent folds withk lock secured thereto, said side Wings arranged to be folded over the top covers to secure same in place, substantially as shown and described.
