SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 515,133, dated February 20, 1894..

To aZZ whom it may concern.-

Be it known that I, JOHN A. SIMPSON, of Cambridge, in the county of Middlesex and State of Massachusetts, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Lamp-Supports for Miners Hats, of which the following, taken in connection with the accompanying drawings, is a specification.

My invention relates to lamp supports for [0 miners hats, is an improvement upon the invention described in Letters Patent No. 511,365, granted to me December 26, 1893, and it consists in certain novel features of construction, arrangement and combination of IS parts which will be readily understood by reference to the description of the accompanying drawings, and to the claims at the end of this specification in which my invention is clearly pointed out.

Figure 1 of the drawings is aside elevation of a miners lamp and its support with the hat shown in dotted outline and illustrating my invention. Fig. 2 is a front elevation of the lamp support detached from the hat and the lamp removed. Fig. 3 is a perspective view of the lamp supporting bracket removed from its plate, and Fig. 4 is a sectional elevation of the bracket and plate the cutting plane being on line at a: on Fig. 2.

In the drawings A 'is the base plate of the lamp support made preferably of sheet metal, in which are cut slits a a and a the metal below the slits a and between a and a being swaged outward to form sockets to receive the vertical or nearly vertical portions 1) b of the arms of the supporting bracket B substantially as shown and described in said prior application. The bracket B consists of a wire bent to a U shape and then having the end 0 portions of the two parallel arms thereof bent at right angles, or nearly so, to the other portions as in said prior application.

0 is a plate of sheet metal bent into approximately a V shape with one arm some- 4 5 What longer than the other, and having'formed at-the end of said short arm a tube or bearing 0 to receive the outer or central portion of said bracket so that said V shaped plate is free to oscillate about said bearing portion of said bracket, and the longer arm of said plate O has formed in its end a V shaped notch-c' as shown in Figs. 2 and 3.

D is the lamp provided with the Wicktube D and the wire hook at secured thereto all in a well known manner. 0 has formed therein a hole e through both of which the free end of the hook 61 passes while the upright portion of said hook which is secured to the lamp rests in the apex of the notch c to prevent sidewise movement of the lamp as shown in Fig. 1. The plate 0 being freely movable about its bearing on the bracket B it follows that the lamp, when secured thereto by passing the free end of the hook 01 through the holes (2 will maintain sub- 65 stantially a perpendicular position whether the miner is standing erect or stooping, and is therefore a very effective device for supporting the lamp in a proper working position and can be very cheaply constructed.

The plate A and bracket B are shown and described in my before cited application and therefore are not claimed here, except in combination.

What I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent of the United States, is

1. In combination with a ininers lamp pro-' vided with ahook for suspending the same, a base plate attached to the miners hat and a bracket projecting from said plate, the plate 0 bent approximately to a V shape and pivoted by the end of one arm to said bracket, and provided with a notch in the end of its other arm, and having holes 6 through each arm to receive the free end of the lamp hook.

2. As a means of suspending a miners lamp from his hat, the V shaped pivoted plate 0 provided with the pivotal socket a, notch c and holes 6, e, in combination with abracket detachably secured to and projecting from 0 said hat and fitted to said socket c.
