To a/ZZ whom it may concern:

Beit known that I, MARY ABBE LooKMAN, a citizen of the United States of America, and a 'resident of the city, county, and State of New York, have invented a certain new and useful Improvement in Barrel-Stands; and l do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.

Myinvention relates to an improvement in barrel stands,-the object of the invention being to so construct the stand that the contents of the barrel thereon will be kept properly ventilated.

A further object is to construct a barrel stand in such manner that a continuous circulation of air can be maintained under the barrel. supported by said stand, whereby to prevent the collection of moisture and mildew. e

A further object is to construct a barrel stand in such manner as to prevent insects and vermin from entering the contents of the barrel supported by said stand.

A further Objectis to provide a simple stand for a barrel which shall be so constructed as to enable the barrel to be readily moved from place to place by any one.

With these objects in view the invention consists in certain novel features of construction and combinations and arrangements of parts as hereinafter set forth and pointed out in the claims.

In the accompanying. drawings, Figure l is a sectional view of my improved stand.' Fig. 2 is a plan view. Fig. 3 is a View of a modiiication.

A represents the body portion of my improved stand, which is preferably made eircular in form and of metal. j

At the bottom of the body portion A of the stand, a series of lugs or legs a (preferably four in' number) are made, said lugs or legs being adapted to project downwardly therefrom and enter socketed lugs b Vmade in a trough B. The brackets c of a seriesof caster wheels o are connected to the bottom of this trough and on these caster wheels the stand is supported. The trough B is intended to be lled with water or other liquid so as to prevent insectsfrom. reaching the barrel on the stand and the water or other liquid may be drawn olf when desired through an opening c2 in the trough. Instead of supplying the trough with liquid, it may be supplied with insect powder.

Should it be desired to use the stand Without the trough and caster wheels, the body portion A may be removed from said trough and made to stand on the iioor on the legs a.

The front of the body portion A of the stand is made with an opening d, through which access may be had to a shelf e located within the body portion, said shelf being properly supported by means of an inwardly projecting flange j. The top of the standis composed of a plate C having slots or openings g, through Which air may pass, whereby to maintain a circulation of air under and in close proximity to the barrel, which latter is located on said top. An annular beveled flange h projects upwardly from the periphery of the top C and serves to retain the barrel in proper position thereon. A pocket j is secured to the stand,in which it is intended to place a molding board, when the same is not in use. The shelf e may beutilized forsupporting various small articles useful in cooking.

In the form of the invention shown in Fig. 3, the stand is composed of a pipe frame, the standards 7c of which are adapted at their lower ends to screw into bosses le projecting from a trough Z, the purpose of said trough being to contain water or other material to prevent insects from reaching the barrel, as above eX- plained. The brackets of the caster wheels m are swiveled to the bottom of the trough. In this form of the invention, the various fittings may be decorated if desired. Theform of the 'stand shown in Figs. l and 2 may also be provided wit-h any desired decorations.

My improvements are Very simple in construction, will enable a barrel to be readily moved from place to place, will permit a continuous circulation of air under the barrel and will prevent insects from reaching the barrel. Having fully described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-

l. In a barrel stand, the combination with a trough adapted tocontain liquid or powder to prevent the passage of insects, said trough having legs therein with sockets in them, of a body portion or frame provided with legs or lugs adapted to enter said sockets.

2. In a barrel stand, the combination with a trough supported on rollers and adapted to contain some substance to prevent the passage of insects, of a body portion or frame supported in the trough and a grated or open work top, substantially as set forth.
