B ,P PERRY TRAGBFASTENER.
Patented Feb 13-, 1 894.
vwewtoz Bey Juan E Raf UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
BENJ MON F. PERRY, OF SPICELAND, INDIANA.
TRACE-FASTENER.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 514,770, dated February 13, 1894.
Application filed December 16, I892. Serial No. 455.339. (No model.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, BENJMON F. PERRY, a citizen of the United States, residing at Spiceland, in the county of Henry, State of Indiana, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Trace-Fasteners; and I do hereby declare the following to be a f 1111, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
My invention relates to trace fasteners, and aims to provide afastenin g which can bereadily applied to any trace for the purpose of securing the same to the iron at the end of the single-tree.
The invention consists, essentially, of a clasp or slide to'be fitted on the trace and carrying a hook or catch, which latter is designed to engage with the single tree iron.
The invention also consists in having the hook or catch provided with a small hook or projection for the double purpose of engaging with a suitable portion of the harness to support the trace, and be grasped by the fingers when operating the hook or catch.
The invention further consists of the novel features and the peculiar construction and combination of the parts which will be hereinafter more fully described and claimed, and which are shown in the annexed drawings, in
whichv Figure 1 is a perspective view showing the application of the invention. Fig. 2 is a perspective view of the fastening. Fig. 3 is a detail view of the catch showing the projection or hook extending from the side thereof.
The fastening is composed of a slide A, and a hook or catch 0. The slide is adapted to be fitted on a trace G and is adapted to be moved thereon to the required position. The slide or clasp is provided with re-curved portions at which are designed to embrace the edges of the trace and retain the fastening in position. v
In thesimplest form of the invention the clasp or slide is composed of a bar having hooks at its ends, substantially as shown. The hook or catch 0 is pivotally connected with the clasp or slide and is adapted to engage with the iron F at the end of the single tree E after the trace has been placed over said iron for the purpose of retaining said trace in position.
1 The projection or hook 0 extended laterally from the side of the catch 0 is adapted to be grasped by the fingers when operating said catch, and is designed to engage with a suitable portion of the harness forsupporting the trace when the latter is detached from the singletree.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patout, is.-
1. A trace fastening composed of a slide adj ustably held on the trace, and a hook pivoted at one end to the said slide and adapted to swing in a plane parallel with the trace to engage with the singletree iron, and having a hook projected laterally from the free end of the said pivoted hook to engage with the harness to support the trace, and provide a thumb extension to facilitate the operation of the said pivoted hook, substantially as described.
2. The herein shown and described trace fastening composed of a bar having its ends bent to embrace the edges of a trace, and hold the device at the adjusted position, and a hook pivoted atone end to the said bar and adapted to swing in a plane parallel with the trace, andhavin g an auxiliary hook projected laterally from the pivoted hook,- substantially as and for the purpose described.
In testimony whereof I affix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
BENJMON F. PERRY.
