Description

(No Model.)
J. R. WEIR. THREAD CUTTER.
Patented'Peb. 13,1894.
iiii A FIONAL LIYHOGMPHING eowum'.
' UNITED STATES PATENT Fries.
JOHN R. WEIR, OF UTICA, NEW YORK, ASSIGNOR OF ONE-HALF TO GEORGE W. LORTZ, OF SAME PLACE.
TH READ-CUTTER.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 514,529, dated February 13, 1894.
Application filed May 20. 1893. Serial No. 474,903. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, JOHN R. WEIR, a citizen of the United States, residing at Utica, in the county of Oneida and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in ThreadCutters; and I do declare the following to be a f nll, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to the letters of reference marked thereomwhich form a part of this specification.
The special object of the invention is to make a thread cutter which may be pinned on a ladys dress, when sewing, so as to be convenient for severing threads and thus rendering unnecessary the practice of biting them with the teeth, or looking up the scissors for that purpose.
Figure 1 of the drawings is a perspective view of mythread cutter as an entirety ready for use; Fig. 2 a detail of the wire which forms the pin, before and after it is bent; Fig. 3 a detail view of the clasp and Fig. 4 a similar view of the cutter by which the threads are conveniently severed.
In the drawings, A represents the pin formed of a wire made sharp at each end and bentin the middle to form two equal armsa (1. 3c
Bis the knife or cutting blade which has a concave cutting edge I) which is preferably but not necessarily beveled on each side toward the middle.
O is the clamp made of soft metal and folded 35 across the middle so as to bind the shanks of the pin and the cutter. All three are then soldered securely together so that the pin may be arranged by a lady in her clothing in the most convenient position for use.
Having thus described all that is necessary to a full understanding of my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to protect by Letters Patent, is
The pin A having two equal arms a. a with 45 pointed ends and the knife B provided with the concave cutting edge I), in combination with the clamp C folded across the middle to hold the shanks of pin and knife as shown and described.
In testimony whereof I affix mysignature in presence of two witnesses.
JOHN R. WEIR.

OWEN F. LUKER,
WILLIAM HowARTH.
