SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 513,179, dated January 23, 1894.
Application filed November 26, 1892. Serial No. 453,222. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known thatl, ISAAC M. GINN, a citizen,
of the United States, residing at Blanchard Springs, in the county of Union and State of Arkansas, have invented a new and useful Oofl'ee-Stirrer, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to improvements in coffee-stirrers; the objects in view being to [0 provide a cheap and simple stirring attachment capable of being applied to the various sizes of coffee-roasting pans; to be removed therefrom when not in use; and when in use to be conveniently operated.
Withtheseobjectsinviewtheinventionconsists in certain features of construction hereinafter specified and particularly pointed out in the claim.
Referring to the drawings:Figure 1 is a vertical transverse section of a coffee-roasting pan having a stirring device constructed in accordance with my invention applied thereto. Fig. 2 is a perspective in detail of the attachment. Fig.3 is a perspective view 2 5 in detail through one of the adjustable clamps.

1 designates the base of the attachment, and the same is provided near its ends with longitudinal slots 2, in each of which is mounted an inverted U-shaped clamp 3, best shown in Fig. 3. Each clasp is provided at oneside with a set-screw 4, and above the same is reduced forming a shoulder 5, and is perfo- 3 5 rated above the shoulder to receive 'a 'pin 6,
which when driven in position serves to bind or draw the shoulder snugly against the under side of the base 1. It will be seen therefore that the clamps may be adjusted within the slots '2 and therefore are adapted to take over the vertical wall 7 of an ordinary coifeeroasting pan 8 of any diameter whatever within the scope of the attachment. The center of the attachment is provided with abearing 5 opening and at one side thereof there rises an inverted L-shaped standard 9 provided at its upper end with a bearing-opening 10 that aligns with that in the base 1. In the opening 10 and that in the base there is journaled a vertical stirring-shaft 11, which at its lower end carries a segmental, stirring-head or arm 12. A washer 13 is located upon the shaft 11 below the base 1 and is secured in position in an adjustable manner by means of a setscrew 14. Above the base 1 a toothed pinion 5 5 15 is mounted on the shaft 11, and is also socured in position by a set-screw 16. It Wlll thus be seen that the shaft 11 may be raised and lowered within the bearing-openings 1n the base and standard 9 so as to adapt it to take into roasting-pans of different depths and be located at a suitable point near the bottom of the same. One end of the base has rising therefrom a vertical bearing-standard 17, and in the sameis journaled a horizontal shaft 18 the inner end of which takes hearing in a bearing 19 formed in the vertical portion of the inverted L-shaped bearing standard 9. The'outer end of the shaft 18 is provided with a crank-handle 20, and thein-v 7c ner end beyond the standard 9, is provided with agear-wheel 21, whose teeth engage with those of the pinion15.
This completes the construction of the attachment, and the manner in which the same is applied and secured to the coffee-roasting pans will be obvious, it being simply necessary to adjust the clamps so as to agree in d stances apart with the diameter of the pan, 1nsert the clamps over the wall of the pan, and tighten the screws 4.. When in operation the coffee is roasted in the usual manner, the
same being constantly stirred by the revolving stirring-arm or head 12 operated through the medium of the crank-handle 20, shaft 18, beveled gear 21, and pinion 1-5.
It will be seen that the attachment may be readily removed when not in use, and may be applied as readily when it is desired to use the same, and finally that the attachment is designed to be used in connection with pans of varying depths and diameters. 7
