WIT
UNITED STATES ATENT OFFICE.
OSWALD SEELIGR, OF LOCKHART, TEXAS.
HORSESHOE-NAIL CLINCHER.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 512,228, dated January 2, 1894.
- Application filed February 27,1893. Serial Nol 4613.842. (No model.)
To a/ZZ whom t may concern:
Be it known that I, OsvvALD SEELIGEE, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of Lockhart,in the county of Caldwell and State of Texas, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Devices for Clinching Horseshoe-Nails; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, which will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawing, which forms a part of this specification.
My invention relates to improvements in clinchers for clinching horseshoe nails, the object being to provide a novel construction of the same by which I obtain superior advantages with respect to simplicity and efflciency in operation.
The invention consists in the novel construction and combination of parts hereinafter fully described and claimed.
In the accompanying drawing: the figure represents a perspective view of a clincher constructed in accordance with my invention.
In the said drawing the reference numeral 1 designates a limb having a jaw 2, formed or provided with serrations or teeth 3. Secured to limb 1 are two upwardly extending plates 12, to which is pivoted a curved jaw 5, having teeth or serrations 6, and formed with a short beveled extension 7. Also secured to said limb are two upwardly projecting plates 13, at a point intermediate of its jaw and the opposite end, to which plates is pivoted a lever 8, the short arm 9, of which is beveled and engages with the beveled extensionpf the jaw f sition after having been actuated by the lever 8.
The operation will be readily understood. In practice after the shoe has been iitted to a horses hoof and the nail driven in, in the ordinary manner, the jaw 2 of thelimb is placed upon the head of the nail, the teeth therein preventing it from slipping, while the curved jaw is brought up and engaged with the point of the nail. By now pressing upon the lever 8, its beveled end will engage with the beveled extension of the jaw 2, causing the latter to be actuated and the point of the nail flattened down.
From the above it will be seen that a very simple and efficient device is produced by which a horseshoe nail may be clinched and flattened in a very rapid and eflicient manner, and by its peculiar construction, but comparatively little power is required to manipulate the same.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim is- A horse-shoe nail-clincher, combining in its structure, the limb with a serrated jaw and a handle, the curved jaw provided with teeth or serrations on its convex side and havinga beveled extension, the upwardly extending plates secured to said limb, the lever pivoted to the intermediate upwardly' projecting plates secured to said limb, having its short arm beveled and engaging with said extension, and the spring consisting of a fiat metal plate secured to said limb and having its outer end bent upwardly so as to engage with the curved jaw, substantially as described.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing as my own I have hereunto affixed my signature in presence of two witnesses.
OSWALD SEELIGER.
