SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent N 0. 683,947, dated October 8, 1901.
Application filed April 5, 1901. Serial No. 54,554. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, AUGUSTUS A. KOUP, residing at Newtown, in the county of Sullivan and State of Missouri, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Horseshoe- Nail Olenchers, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to devices for clenching the nails used for securing horseshoes to the hoofs of the animal; and it consistsof the novel construction and combination of the parts hereinafter fully described and claimed.
In the drawings, Figure 1 is a side view of the nail-clencher. Fig. 2 is an end View of the same.
A and B are the two handles of the device. .These handles operate bent and forked levers A and B, which are pivoted together at one end by a pin 5. The bent lever A has a plate d secured to its upper side beyond the pin 6 for the head of the nail to bear against. a A
bent clenching-arm e is pivoted at one end to the lever A by a pin e, and its frontportion is provided with serrations E, which work over the plate cl. Links 0 are provided and are pivoted to the other end of the clenchingarm e by a pinf and to the lever B at its knee-point b by a pin f. The links 0 work in the forked lever A, and when the handles are moved apart the serrations of the clenchingarm engage with the point of the nail and turn it over and press it into the hoof of the horse.
What I claim is-- In a nail-clencher, the combination, with two bent and forked levers A and B pivoted together at one end and provided with handles, of a plate carried by the projecting end of the lever A, a bent clenching-arm pro vided with serrations arranged over the said plate and pivoted at one end to the lever A, and links pivoted to the other end of the said clenching-arm and to the lever B at its kneepoint and working through the forked lever A, substantially as described and shown.
In testimony whereof I have hereunto signed my name in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
