Be it known that I, JACOB H. NELLIs, of Oanajoharie, in the county of Montgomery and State of New York, have invented certain new and usefullmprovements in Bottle-Cases and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it pertains to make and use it, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, which form part of this specification.

My invention relates to an improvement in bottle cases, and it consists in the novel inanner of holding the bottles confined within their cells, as will be particularly referred to hereinafter and especially pointed out in the claims.

The object of my invention is to provide cheap and effectual devices for holding bottles confined within the cases or cells and which also provide eftectually for their display and use.

In the accompanying drawingsz-Figure l, is a side elevation, shown partly in section of my improved case. Fig. 2, is a horizontal cross sectional view of a modified form of the same.

A designates a block of wood or other material constituting the case having formed therein any desired number of cells or cavities B. A recess D extends from the outer wall of the case inward to the cavity B, and secured at its lower end within the said cavity is the spring arm C having its upper end turned inward to form the catch F, while its extreme upper end is projected outward as shown, into the said recess D, to form a finger hold. A shouldered bottle Gr fits within the cavity B, which is engaged as shown, by the said catch F and holds it firmly in place. The normal position of the spring arm holds its catch in engagement with the bottle and in order to release the latter it is necessary to draw the upper end ot the said spring arm outward by means of the said finger hold, so as'to clear the shoulder of the bottle of the catch E.

A modification of the design above described consists of a spring arm H pivoted to the outer side of the case which has secured to its inner side a stud I which latter is adapted to project through a perforation in the casing wall and over the shoulder of the bottle confined within the case cell, as shown in Fig. 2. In order to remove the bottles thus confined, it is necessary to pull outward the free end of the said spring arm so as to retract the said stud and by turning the arm upon its pivot the stud being out of line with its perforation in which it is adapted to project, will engage the casing side as shown in dotted lines in Fig. 2, and thus the bottle may be easily put in place or removed.

By the use of either device here shown and described it is evident that the bottles may be eectually displayed or used by allowing them to rest upon either locking projection, as shown in dotted lines in Fig. l.

Having thus described my invention, what I claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is

l. The combination of a case having acell formed therein, and a shouldered bottle adapted to fit within the cell, of a spring arm secured to the casing, and a projection carried by the said spring arm which is adapted to engage the shoulder of the bottle, or upon which the bottle may rest, when elevated, substantially as shown and described.

2. The combination of a case provided with a cell and a bottle adapted to fit therein, of a laterally movable spring arm, and a projection at or adjacent to the free end of' the said arm which is adapted to engage the said bottle for the purpose of holding it within the cell, or upon which the said bottle may rest, when elevated, substantially as shown and described.

3. The combination of a case having a cell formed therein, a recess projecting inward through the case side to the cell, a bottle adapted to fitthe cell, and a spring arm movable at one end through the said recess and which is adapted to engage the bottle, substantially as shown and described.

5. Thecombination of a case having a cell formed therein, a. recess extending inward from the'outer side of the case to the cell, a spring arm secured at its lower end within the cell and its upper end adapted to project the said recess, an inwardly outward through I extending catch at the upper end of the arm which is adapted to engage the lbottle conned in the cell, and an outwardly project-` ing finger hold carried by the arm, su bstantially as shown and described.
