COMBINED BOOKGASE AND WASHSTAND.
No. 511,237 Patented Dec. 19, 1893..
HI v
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
LAMBERT HENNES,OF SOUTH SIOUX CITY, NEBRASKA.
COMBI N ED BOOKCASE AN D WASHSTAN D,
SPECIFICATION formingpart of Letters Patent No. 511,237, dated December 19, 1893.
Application filedJunc 12,1893. Serial No. i771 (N 111061813 To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, LAMBERT HENNES, a citizen of the United States, residing at South Sioux City, in the county of Dakota and State of Nebraska, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in a Combined Bookcase and Washstand; and I do declare the following to bea fu1l,clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to whichit appertains to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to the letters and figures of reference marked thereon, which form a part of this specification.
The special object of the invention is to make a single article of furniture which shall contain a book-case at the top, a writing desk and wash stand in the middle, and, at the bottom, a water-supply receptacle and a waste bucket.
Figure l of the drawings is a perspective view with the washstand opened out; Fig. 2 a vertical section on dotted line a: a: of Fig. 1, the washstand being folded up; Fig. 3 a rear elevation, to show the pulleys; Fig. r a detail perspective view, to show the trough and its connections.
In the drawings, A is a bookcase with pigeon holes for papers of different dimensions, and with a hinged door a, in the front of which is arranged a mirror, a. Directly under the door a is arranged the bottom-hinged desk B which is supported by'the pivoted rods 11 1) whose right-angled upper end slides in a sidegroove of the side-wall of the cavity in which the desk B fits or folds.
C is the washstand, in which the desk fits, which is hinged at the bottom so as to turn down into a horizontal plane with the washbasin 0 and metallic pan 0 made fast to the stand bya bolt, rivet or other fastening. The stand and the pan c have each a vertical flange all around except at the end adjacent to theframe of the article of furniture, where it is open so that when raised, the water in the basin, as well as the splashings in pan, will all be emptied into a trough D, which empties into the waste bucket E at the bottom. hen the washstand is closed up to the frame, the same is held by the latch and pin e e The stand 0 is connected with the bucketholder hook g by the cords F F which pass over the pulleys l, 2, 3, while the bucket Gis hinged at its bottom to the lower end of its holder G which works up and down in the water-reservoir H. When the stand G is turned out in a horizontal plane, the spout J, which is hinged to the front of the plate K, which is made fast atits lower end between the front of the reservoir H and the back of trough D, and falls to an inclined position, the front end resting on the basin while the bottom hinged bucket turns over so as to empty its contents into the spout;
To the right of the apartment, containing the water reservoir and waste-bucket, are
shelves to receive toweling and other things used in a. lavatory.
Having thus described all that is necessary to an understanding of my invention, whatI wish to protect by Letters Patent is- In an article of furniture, a case or framework, a folding washstand pivoted thereto, a pan fitting therein, a basin secured to the pan, a hinged spout, a water-reservoirin the lower part of the case, a bucket-holder movable vertically and open in front, and a bucket pivoted at its bottom in said holder, the latter being connected by cords and pulleys with the washstand, all combined, constructed and arranged substantially as shown and described.
Intestirnony whereof I affix mysignature in presence oftwo witnesses.
LAMBERT HENNES.
Witnesses:
THOS. J. KING, LUZERNE KING.
