UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
VVILLIAM'D. SNYDEIQOF CHICAGO, ILLINOIS, ASSIGNOR TO THE SUQG & BEIERSDORF COMPANY, OF SAME PLACE.
COMBINED WASH-STAND AND TABLE.
SPECIFICATION forming part Of Letters Patent NO. 463,220, dated November 17, 1891.
Application filed December 16, 1890. $erial No. 374,948. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, VVILLIAM D. SNYDER, of Chicago, in the State of Illinois, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Combined IVash-Stands and Tables, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to furniture and -the object of my improvement is to provide an article of household or office furniture which will conveniently serve the purposes of a wash-standand table combined. This object I have attained in the article constructed as illustrated in the accompanying drawings, in which Figure 1 is a central vertical longitudinal section, the dotted lines showing the position of the cover and its support when raised. Fig. 2 is a top view with the cover removed; and Fig. 3 is a front elevation showing the article as viewed from a point to the right of Fig. 1.
The upper part of the article is composed of a tray-like frame 1, in the front part of which is placed a metallic sink or wash-bowl 2. In the rear part is a place or room for a soap-dish 3. A cover or top 4 is hinged to the rear of said frame and connected by a chain 5 at each side for supporting the cover in the position shown by dotted lines, Fig. 1. The top-frame is supported on a box 6 provided with legs or feet 7, said box is open at the top and is provided with a shelf 8 for supporting a water-pitcher 9 at the rear. In the front is a tank 10 for the used water. I This tank is supported on a strip 11 and a front strip 12, which latter extends part way across the front and is hinged at 13 to the bottom piece of the box just inside of the door 14, so that when the door is open said front strip may be turned down to the horizontal and prevent the closing of said door without first raising said front strip up to its normal position. Said front strip 12 has a flange 15, which projects up in front of the tank, so that on openingthe door and removing the tank to empty it said front strip will be turned down and prevent the closing of the door without a reminder that the tank must be first put back. The plug 16,which closes the hole in the bottomof the bowl, is attached to a wire 17, by which a float 18 is suspended near the top of the tank. This float will raise the plug before the used water in the tank is in danger of running over, and thus indicate when it is necessary to empty the tank; A mirror 19 is set in the underside of the cover or top, so that when the cover is raised the mirror is brought before the user. A chain 20 is provided in the usual way for raising the plug to empty the bowl.
What is claimed is V In a combined Wash-stand and table of the class described, the combinatiomwith the box 6, provided with a rear tank-supporting strip 11, of the door 14 and the front tank-supporting strip 12, hinged to the bottom piece of the box and provided with an upwardlyprojecting flange 15, substantially as and for the purpose specified.
YVILLIAM D.. SNYDER.
