Beit known that I, FRANK SwIONTKOwsKY, a citizen of the United States of America, residing at Denver, in the county of Arapahoe and State of Colorado, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Fume-AI"- rosters;V and I do declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to the iiguresof reference marked thereon, which forni a part of this specification.
My invention relates to improvements in fume arresters for cooking stoves and the object of the device is to carry off the smoke, steam, vapors, dac., arising from Ythe stove while cooking is going on, thus preventing the annoying consequences attending these fumes when they are allowed to remain in the cooking apartment and pass thence to other parts of the house. p Y
The device consists of a receiver connected with the stove pipe and suspended a suitable distance above the top of the stove. A damper is located in the iiue leading from the ref ceiver to the pipe, while alongitudinal partition is placed in the pipe extending from a point below the'fume entrance to a suitable distance above said point, thus forming a separate passage way for the fumes when they first enter the pipe, and preventing any interference with the draft which otherwise might result from tapping thepipe since this fume passage is closed at its lower extremity.
The device will be fully understood by reference to the accompanying drawings in which is illustrated an embodiment thereof.

The Opposite extremity of this elbow is connected with another section of pipe leading to the vertical smoke pipe attached to the stove at a suitable point below. In this section 7 is located the ordinary damper 8 which is employed to close the passage way through the fume conduit when the latter is not needed as when cooking is suspended. In the smokey pipe 9 leading from thev stove is located the partition l0 closed at the bottom as shown at 102L and open at the top for the escape of the fumes into the common passage way above the partition. Thispartition extends both above and below the fume entrance. The portion below the entrance for kthe fumes forms with the pipe a chamber for the soot and the dirt, which otherwise might obstruct the entrance for the fumes and pass into the pipe leading from the stove.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim isf- A fume arrester consisting of an inverted hopper-shaped receiver suspended above the stove, a conduit leading therefrom and provided With a damper,` the smoke flue with which the fume conduit is connected said liue being provided with a partition extending below the fume entrance and forming a chamber for the soot, dust, duc., said chamber be.- ing closed at the bottom and open at the top which is located above the fume entrance,
