SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 508,096, dated November '7, 1893. Application filed February 15, 1893. Serial No.462,44=8. (No modeL.
To all whom, it may concern.-
Be it known that I, HARRY O.EVANs,acitizen ofthe United States, and a resident of Bristol, in the county of Bucks and State of Pennsylvania, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Clasps for Pencils, Pens, 850., of which the. following is a specification.
My invention relates to improvements in clasps for holding pencils, pens, &c., in a pocket, and my invention consists of a cylindrical ring of soft rubber which is adapted to be placed upon the pen or pencil and which is furnished with a number of radially projecting points which are adapted to engage the sides of the pocket and prevent the pen or pencil from falling fromit, and at the same ti me allow the pen or pencil to be easily placed in or withdrawn from the pocket. If desired my clasp may be attached to and form part of the erasing tip which is frequently attached to the ends of pencils. p
In the accompanying drawings, forming part of this specification, and in which similar letters of reference indicate similar parts throughout the several views: Figure 1, is a side elevation of my clasp; Fig. 2, a plan of Fig. 1, and Fig. 3, a side elevation of a combined clasp and eraser.
My clasp consists of a hollow cylinder of rubber A, which is furnished with a number of radially projecting points, B, preferably arranged in two-or more rows. of the cylinder A,Iprefer to form raised rings or bands 0, which not only give a finish to the clasp, but also strengthen and stifien the ends.
In Fig. 3, I have shown my clasp furnished at its upper end with a'solid head D, which can be used for erasing pencil marks, &c.
Having thus described my invention, I claim- The combination in a pencil clasp of ahollow cylinder of rubber adapted to be carried upon the end of the pencil, two or more rows of radially projecting points carried by said cylinder and a solid piece of rubber carried by the upper end of said cylinder and forming an eraser.
HARRY O. EVANS.
