IMPROVEMENT IN COAL-SCUTTLES.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 50,744,
To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, THOMAS SMITH, of Oincinnati, Hamilton county, and State of Ohio, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Ooat-Scuttles; and I the following is a full,clear,and exact description of the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings,-making a part of this specification, in which- Figure 1 represents a side view of a cast-iron bottom for a coal-scuttle. Fig. 2 is abottom view of the same. Fig. 3 represents a section cut through lengthwise.
Similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts in the drawings.
To enable others skilled in the art to fully understand and construct my invention, I will proceed to describe it.
A, Fig. 1, represents a cast-iron oval-shaped coal-scuttle bottom, with a rim raised above do hereby declare that dated October 31, 1865.
the bottom of sudicient height to allow sheetiron sides to be placed inside of the rim and fastened together by rivets or their equivalent at the places marked 0. Bottom marked D in Figs. 2 it. Ribs marked B are placed underneath the bottom, as shown in Figs. 2 and 3, to allow the bottom to be made thin and light and to assist in sustaining it.
I do not wish to confine myself to an oval shape, as they may be made round.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
The construction of a coal-scuttle bottom in the manner and for the purpose set forth.
