Specication of Letters Patent. i 'Patented Odg.y 2O, 1914. Application flelAugust` 11, 1913.` r,Serial No. 784,185 lk v l a f l l To all whom it may concern of Nebraska,
Fig. 7 is a plan view Be it known that I, JOHN R. Jnwnrr, a citizen of the United States, residing at Wood River, in the county of Hall and State have invented certain new and usefulk improvements in Vault-Molds, which the following. is a specification.
This invention relates to molds for forming cement or concrete burial vaul-ts, and its object is to providea moldfor the lid of the vault which -is simple in construction and which enables the lidfto be cheaply and eX- peditiously madeflliis object is attained by means of a novel combination and arrangement of parts to be hereinafter described and claimed, reference being had to the accompanying drawings in` which- Figure l is an; elevation of the mold for the lid of the vault; Fig. 2 is an endview of the lid mold; Fig. 3 is a plan view .of the lid mold; Fig. 4 is a cross-section on the line :L8-13 of Fig. 3; Fig. 5" is a longitudinal section on the line 14e-,14 of-Fig. 8; Fig. 6 is a cross-section of the knife or scraper used for forming'the top of the lid; of the pallet for the lid; Fig. 8 is an elevationy of the knife or scraper illustrating the manner in which it is used; Fig. 9 is an inverted plan view of the upper part ofthe lid mold; Fig. 10 is an elevation and Fig. l1 is a plan view of a reinforcement for the lid; Fig. 12 is a front elevation and Fig. 1S is a side `elevation of a fastening to be hereinafter described.
Referring specifically to the drawing, the lid to be molded is indicatedby the reference character 23. `Themold yfor forming the lid has sides 24 and ends25. The ends are between the sides andthe latter project beyond the ends and are. connected by cross rods 26. rllhe end members are prevented from moving along `the side members by Y, angle irons 27, and theyseat on a bottom frame or pallet constructedof cross timbers or sills 28 on which are placed and secured longitudinal side bars 29 and end cross bars 30. Between the end bars and the adjacent sills extend braces 31. On the pallet is placed a form 32 whichv is shaped to conform to the arched shape of the lid 23. This form seats inside the bars 29 and 3() of the pallet and rests on the sills 28, the ends of the form seating on the braces 31, whereby it is securely held4 place. The sides and ends of the form `coincidejwith the inner edges'4 of the bars 29 and 80.- 1 On the under side of the form are struts 33 to strengthen the same and enable it to lwithstand'the weight of the material formingthe lid.r The form is come posed of flooring which is laid on the struts, the latterbeing shaped and arranged to arch the flooring. In order to make the form as eoy smooth as "possible, theflooring'is covered f with sheet metal, asy indicated at 34; The t outer edge of thissheet metal covering vlaps over to the end and sideymembers25 and 24.' 1
In order to prepare y'the mold ready tore` ceive the concrete material to form the ylid 23, the form 32 is placed yon the pallet as hereinbefore described, and the'sideand end members 24 and 25used` for' forming the sides and kends of the lid are put in place. 'v Concrete material isnow placed on. the form and between the same and the side and` end members 24 and 25. Two arched reinforcing bars 36 extending transversely of the lid are then suspended by means of hook bolts 37 fromcross bars 38'carried by posts 39r rising from the side members 24, yand arelnforcement is placed on the material. The
form is'now filled to the Vupper edge ofthe members '24K and 25 androunded oifand brought down to a nish' byby an arched "scraper 40 shown inFigs. 6v and 8, by sliding said scraper along the side members 24. The
bars 36 are embedded in `the lid and have loops 4l intermediate their ends which project fromthe topof the lid, forming eyes to` facilitate the handling thereof. f
f In order that the nished lid may be re# -moved 'from the mold, the side members 24 'are providedy with angle brackets 42 the outstanding portions of which have slots 43 throughwhichpass bolts 44 risingfrom the `side bars 29 yand `secured by wing nuts 45. Upon loosening the Wing nuts the side mehr;
bers can be moved awayifrom the molded lid by reason oftheslots43.
The parts herein described are economi? composed of cross sills, and side and end sides and ends of the form in spaced relation bars `:mounted on top of said cross sills, an' therewith. l l0 arched form resting on Jche cross sillsl and In testimony whereof I aix my signature fitting between the side and end bars, the in presence of two witnesses.
sides and ends of the form coinciding with s, JCI-IN R. J EWETT.
the inner edges of the side and end bars, and Witnesses:
side and end members mounted on the foe-y W. E. DONNER,
said sideand end bars, and surrounding the' C. H. GOOD.
