Specieation forming part of Letters Patent No. 50,663, dated October 24, 1865.
To all 'whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, SAMUEL J. Fig. 3 is a View ot the collar as stretched out into a plane.
My said invention consists, mainly, in a paper collar made With the imitation of a cravat stamped, painted, printed, or made on it, the same being so that the collar, when on the neck of a person, shall not only answer the purpose of a cloth collar, but present the appearance of having a cravat applied to itin the ordinary Way heretofore practiced.
The object of the invention is to obtain a cheap substitute for a cloth collarand a cravat.
In carrying out my said invention I imprint or make on the surface of the paper of which a collar may be composed a band or imitation of a cravat, such being accompanied or not, as occasion may require, with the addition ot' a colored or imprinted imitation of a bow, made of paper and forming part of the collar or being attached to it.
In the Figs. l and 2 ofthe drawings, A denotes a paper collar of an ordinary kind, b being the part colored in imitation of the cravat,
while c is the part of the paper colored in imitation of a cravat-bow.
It' desirable, the colored part or parts ofthe collar which are in imitation of a cravat may be embossed with any suitable ornamental device or devices.
In Fig. 3 each half H of the bow is exhibited as projecting from the collar A and fastened with a locking notch or slit s or s,where by the two parts of the bow may be interlocked and the collar be fastened together in front. The front button-hole of the collar is represented at t.
I do not claim constructing a paper collar.
With the imitation of a cravat-bow only, in the manner as exhibited in the United States Patent No. 45,681, granted December 27, 1864, as my invention covers the imitation ot the cravat to extend around or across the entire collar, lengthwise of it, in manner substantially as hereinbefore described and represented.
I claim- As an improved manufacture, a paper collar made with the imitation of a cravat printed or formed on it, substantially as specified, or with the same and the two parts of the bow thereof projecting from the opposite ends of the collar, and provided with the locking-slits, as set forth.
