Description

UNITED STATES' PATENTu OFFICE.
VAARON P. GOULD, OF CANTON, OHIO.
DUST-COLLECTO R.
SPECIFICATIONYformng part of Letters Patent No. 502,883, dated August 8, 1893.
Application tiled January 13, 1893. Serial No. 458,251` (No model.)
To @ZZ whom t mag/concern:
Be it known that I, AARON P. GoULD, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of Canton, county of Stark, State of Ohio, have invented a newand useful Improvement in D ust- Collectors, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, making part of this specification.
My invention relates to an improvement in dust collectors, and consists in certain features of construction and combination of parts as will be hereinafter described and pointed out in the claim.
Figure 1, of the accompanying drawings is a view in perspective of a dust collector illustrating my invention. Fig. 2, is a side elevation of the dust spout and a cross section of the suction pipe, and Fig. 3, a side elevation of emery wheel.
Similar letters of reference indicate correspondin g parts in all of the igures of the drawings.
Referring to Fig. l, A represents the draft or suction pipe having at one end an enlarged portion B, in which is placed a suction fan or blower, which may be of any of the well known and approved forms. Said fan in the present case is driven by the belt C.
D represents a well known form of emery Wheel stand,E the wheel, and F thedust gathering spout which forms the principal feature of this invention. v At the side of the pipe A, is provided an elongated aperture G, about which is placed an open sheet metal band H,-
from which is projected the dust spout F, the
inner end to register with the aperture G. The
end portions of the band H are flanged out as shown at J, through which thumb screws K are placed as shown, by which the band may be tightened about the pipe A. The band also serves to cover that portion of the aperture G outside of the open end of the spout. The outer end of the spout F is enlarged as shown and adapted to receive the wheels. In operation the screws are slacked and th spout F dropped down as shown at L, Fig. l. A wheel as E is placed on the shaft M, of the wheel stand D, and the spout raised up at N, to embrace the wheel E. The dust formed by grinding or polishing articles on the wheel, is throwninto the spout, fromwhich it is drawn by the iniiow of air caused by the movement of the fan or blower hereinbefore mentioned into the pipe A, and out through the blower to the outside of the building or some place of deposit.
In grinding or polishing frequent changes of wheels become necessary, either for the purpose of renewal, or for the purpose of adaptation of different forms or grade of wheels as required in the progress of the work. And to accomplish this quickly and conveniently, the screws are turned back to slack the band H, which will allow the outer end of the spout F to drop away from the wheel, when the wheel can be readily removed, and when the same or another wheel has been placed on the shaft, the spout may be raised up and adjusted vertically about the pipe and to the wheel, and secured in desired adjustment by the thumb screws K.
For certain classes of work the mouth of the spout may be placed above the wheel, and may be adapted to different kinds of work on different kinds of material, as my invention consists in providing a spout that may be rotated or adjusted about the horizontal-pipe and secured in desired adjustment, by the band H.
Having thus fully described the nature and object of my invention, what I claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
The combination with the pipe A, having a side aperture as G, of the open ended spout F, secured to the band H, said band to embrace the pipe A, and means for securing the band and spout, in desired adjustment about said pipe, substantially as described and for the purpose set forth.
In testimony whereof I have hereunto set my hand this 4th day of January, A. D. 1893 AARON P. GOULD.
