Description
'Nrrne STATES PATENT venten.
JoHN eoULniNe, on WORCESTER, iirAssAeHUsErfrsf Speeiiieation forming part of Letters Patent N0. 50,222 l; dated October', ic. v
To all whom it 'may concern.-
Beit known that I, JOHN GoULD1NG,of the eity and county of Worcester, and State ot' Massachusetts, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Bohbin-Holders; and I do hereby declare that the following is a i'ull, clear, and exact description of the same, ref-- erenoe being had to the accompanying Ldrawings7 forming a lpart of this specification, in which y l Figure l represents :i spindle with my iniproved bobbin-holder applied thereto. Fig. 2 represents a longitudinal section of a spindle hobbin-holder and bohbin, and Fig. 3 represeuts a perspective View of a hobbin-holder npon an enlarged scale.
In the drawings A represent-s the spindle; B, the whirl; C, the bobbin-holder7 end D the bobbin. Y
My vimproved bobbin-holder is stamped or eut from a let piece of thin steel plete or other suitable metal, und then bent in cylindrical forni to titthe spindle; The edges nre not fast ened togelie1,aiid the spring oi" the metal Vcauses the bobbin-holder to cling eiosely to the spindle at the point to which it is driven. 'ihe center ofthe bohbin-holderissprung orbnlged out and forms n series of springs, a, which serve to hold the bobbin in piene and prevent its turning npon the spindle.. Cihe lower part, b, ottnemetnl piece from which the hobbin-holder is made forms n longtnbe or spring, c, which holds iiiehoblvinfholder to thespindle, und et the sinne time does not materially interfere with the removal of th reeds-that may be wound upon the spindle below the bobhin, and thus I am enabled to overcome and fully obviate n practical objection which is found to exist in the use'ot' the. `bobbin-lmider heretofore iu- Vented by myselfs :is well as in that ot' lz'ivffvfii Wright. ered and wound around the spindie below the bobbin, and inn-short time they accumulate te suoli an extent that .they have to be removed, and in bobbin-hoiders heid to the spindle by n. ringo, the vynrnlias to'iie entii'fwiile with at bobbiirlioider vlikeV that shown in the aecompanying drawings the yern can be easily slipped otf from the spindle by hand. The lower edge, r1, of the t-uhe or spring c is beveled otf to expedite the operation.
Having described my improvements in bob hilnliolders, l would obscurthat l lay no eiaim to the formation of the springs by punching' r the sanne. ont of shi-et met-nl; but
What l claim as new and ot` my invention7 end desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
VIJiie combination, with the spindle AP oi' the bobbiiriiolder C, when constructed with e long tube or spring, c, which serves as the only support to the bobbin-holder, :is set forth.
JOHN GTL'D l NG,
Titnesnesz V Trios. H. DODGE, H. L. FULLER.
