STOVEPIPE-HANGER.

Be it known that I, WILLIAM HENRY TRE- PUs, of Chicago, in the county of Cook and State of Illinois, have invented a new and Improved Stovepipe-Hanger, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description.

rlhe object of the invention is to provide a new and improved stove pipe hanger, which is simple and durable in construction, and readily applied and adjusted to securely hold and properly support the stove pipe.

The invention consists of an adjustable band adapted to encircle the stove pipe and provided with a rod, a sleeve in which the said rod is held adjustably, and a plate for supporting the said sleeve and adapted to be fastened to the ceiling or other support.

The invention also consists of certain parts and details, and combinations of the same, as will be hereinafter described and then pointed out in the claims.

Reference is to be had to the accompanying drawings, forming a part of this specification, in which similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts in all the figures.

Figure l is a sectional side elevation of the improvement. Fig. 2 is a front view of the same. Fig. 3 is a face view of one end of the band. Fig. 4 is a similar view of the other end of the band; and'Fig. 5 is an inverted plan view of the plate.

The improved stove pipe hanger is provided with a circular band A, approximately of the diameter of the stove pipe to be supported. The band A is preferably made in two parts A and A2, pivotally-connected with each other by a hinge A2, as plainly shown in Fig. 1. The free ends of the two parts A and A2 are adapted to be fastened together by a suitable fastening device B, consisting principally of a toothed bar B', secured to the free end of the part A2 and adapted to be engaged by a spring-pressed pawl B2, pivoted on lugs projecting from guideways B2, formed on the free end of the partA, the said guideways being arranged to receive the free end of the part A2, so as to guide the same. When the part A2 is swung open, the other part A can be conveniently placed over one-half of the stove pipe and then the other part A2 is shut so as to encircle the lower part of the stove pipe,

the free end of the part A2 engaging the guideways B3 to be locked in place therein by the spring-pressed pawl B2.

When the several parts are in position, a screw C is preferably screwed in the free end of the part A2 to abut on the free end of the part A', to form an auxiliary lock for the free ends of the band Ato guard against accidents or displacement of the pawl B2. From the middle of the part A of the band A extends upward a rod D, held adj ustably in the sleeve E, and adapted to be secured therein bya set screw F. The upper end of the sleeve E 1s threaded and in this threaded part screws a screw G, forming part of a plate H provided with a screw I, adapted to screw in the ceiling or other place of support. The plate H is also adapted to be directly screwed to the ceiling by ordinary small screws, as shown 1n dotted lines in Fig. l. A set screw -J screws in the sleeve E near the upper end thereof, and serves to fasten the screw G in place after the sleeve E has been screwed up on the said screw to the proper height.

In rising this device,I first attach the plate H to the ceiling or other support, as shown 1n Figs. l and 2, and then screw the upper threaded end of the sleeve E ou the screw G and then insert the rod D in the lower end of the sleeve and engage the band A with the stove pipe as above described. The rod D is then fastened in place in the sleeve E by the set screw F and likewise the screw J is turned to fasten the sleeve E to the screw G.

It will be seen'that by this device the band A can be readily moved up or down, so as to hold the stove pipe in the proper position and to conveniently support the latter to prevent the stove pipe from sagging or its sections from parting.

Having thus fully described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent- 1. A stope pipe hanger, comprising an adj ustable band made in two sections and adapted to encircle the stove pipe and provided with a rod, a sleeve in which the said rod is held adjustably, and a plate for supporting the said sleeve from the ceiling or other s upport, substantially as shown and described.

A stove pipe hanger, comprising a band IOO made in two parts hinged together, a lock for fastening the free ends ofthe said parts, a rod extending from one of the hinged parts, a sleeve in which the said rod is held adjustably,a set screw for fastening the rod in place in the sleeve, a plate adapted to be secured to the ceiling and provided with L screw on which screws the upper end of the said sleeve, and :t set screw for fastening the seid screw to the sleeve, substantially es shown and described.

3. A stove pipe hanger, provided with abend adapted to encircle the stove pipe and mede in two parts hinged together, and a lock for fastening the free ends of the seid parts together, said lock comprising a toothed ber fastened to the free end of one band part, a spring-pressed pawl pivoted on the other band part and engaging the said toothed bar, and guideways held on one band part and engaged by the free end of the bend part carrying the said toothed bar, substantially es shown and described.

4. A stove pipe hanger, provided with n band adapted to encircle the stove pipe and mede in two parts hinged together, and a lock for fastening the free ends of the said parts together, said lock comprising a. toothed bnr fastened to the free end of one band part, :L spring-pressed pawl pivoted on the other band part and engaging the said toothed bar, guideways held ou one band part and engaged by the free end of the band part cerrying the said toothed bar, and a screw screwing in the seid toothed bar, substantially as 35 shown and described.
