Description

UNITED STATES Y LEONARD oEoEooT, 0E PAVILioN, NEW YORK.
`IMPRovED BAG-Honoris.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 85,511, dated January 5, 1869.
To all 'whom it may concern.-
Beit known that I, LEONARD ORoFooT, of
Pavilion, in the State of New York, have inV vented a new and useful Bag-Holder; and I dd hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof', reference being had to the accompanying drawing, making part of this speccation, in which- Figure 1 is a side elevation. Fig. 2 is a side elevation -of the clamp G.
The nature of my invention will be understood from the drawings and specification.
To enable others skilled in the art to make and use my invention, l will describe its construction and operation.
' opening, c, in the standard B, near the bottom,
and is hooked onto the pin a, or other suitable device", to holdthe arm in any desired adjustment. 0n the outer end of the arm l fasten an oblong funnel, D, by means of a socket, e, attached thereto or otherwise. On the four lower corners of the funnel I fasten a metal elbow, f, which receives the edge of the mouth of the bag. Just above the elbow-iron 1 also pivot a bell-crank, g, which, when in a downward position, swings into the elbow f, and thereby clamps the edge of the bag and holds it while being filled, as shown in the drawings. A cord is attached to each bell crank g, so that by drawing it all are released at the same time, allowing' the bag to be displaced.
0n one side of the arm C, I attach a clamp, G, Figs. l and 2, for the purpose of holding the side-of the bag when the arm is bent over, as shown in dotted lines. Fig. 1. The arm C may have a slotted hole for a bolt to pass through, instead of the pin a, and thereby made adjustable vertically.
The object of this invention is to make a bag-holder that will hold the bag while being lled, and holds the bag extended at the same time, and which can be adapted to any length of bag.
lts operation is as follows: The edge of the mouth of the bag is placed over the under side .of the funnel and turned into the elbow irons f, and the bell-cranks g are forced down and clamp the bag until tilled. When it is desired to relieve the bag the bell-cranks g are drawn up by the cords, which relieves the bag. If the bag is short, and will not touch the base A when attached to the funnel, by bending over the arm C, any length ol' bag can be accoxnmodated. When a bag is filled the arm can be bent over a trifle and vthe bag taken away without lifting it to get it clear of the funnel, which is the case when the holder is'not easily adjusted.
The clamp G sustains the bag about the center, and keeps it extended when it is desirable to bend over the arm C for short bags.
What I claim as my invention, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
rlher arrangement of the adjustable arm C, standard B,-and cord or chain b, in combination with the funnel D, all acting conjointly, as and for the purpose set forth. l
