To all whom it may concern.-

Be it known that I, OTIS H. WILLIAMs, of

Hamilton, Butler county, Ohio, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Cabinet-Albums, of which the following is a specification.

My invention relates to that class of cabinet albums consisting of a rectangular box or cabinet, provided with a glass in the top or lid, through which the pictures in the cabinet may be seen; and the object of my improvement is to inclose the photographic pictures to protect them from inj ury; to provide convenient means of securin g the photo cards so that they may be successively, either singly or in pairs, exposed to view; to utilize the space in the cabinet for the largest number of pictures; and to mount the cabinet on a central pivot for greater convenience. I attain these objects in the following described manner as illustrated in the accompanying drawings in which Figure 1 represents a side elevation of the cabinet; Fig. 2 an end elevation mounted on a pivot and showing the lid removed; Fig. 3, a side view of one of the wire card holders; Fig. 4, an end view of Fig. 3; Fig. 5, a side view of a wire ring or clamp to secure the tops of pairs of cards together; Fig. 6, an end view of Fig. 5; Fig. 7, an enlarged vertical section of a portion of the base showing manner of construction.

In the drawings, A represents the base, B a rectangular frame secured thereon, O and D glass panels forming the respective sides and ends of said frame, and E the cover or lid, consisting of a glass panelsurrounded by a frame. The cabinet if desired may be mounted on standard F by means of pivot G depending from the center of the base. The margin H of the base is raised to receive the frame B, groove I is formed lengthwise of the margin on one side of the base, and a series of equidistant transverse notches J, is formed in said margin and extend inwardly from said groove and across the margin on theopposite Side of the base. Holders K rest loosely in said notches and are retained by the bottom of frame 13. Said holders are constructed of spring wire and foot L is formed on one end thereof to rest in groove I to prevent end motion of the holders. Ring or knob M formed on the opposite end extends outside the cabinet, by which said holders may be turned axially in said notches. Coils N are formed in said holders on the side opposite foot L to receive and retain the bottom edges of the photo cards R. Said cards may be inserted in the holders in pairs, with their backs together, when the top corners may be secured together by rings 0 being placed thereon.

As the combined thickness of the top ends of the cards secured in the cabinet occupies a less longitudinal distance than that of the holders, the cards are permitted to be turned at such an angle as to be conveniently viewed through the top glass, and they may be successively turned in either direction until the pictures on opposite sides of the cards may be exposed to view.

The cabinet may be constructed wider than shown and with the card holderscorrespondingly larger, and provided witha greater number of coils for the reception of a double row of cards if desired.

Leaves similar to those of ordinary photo albums may be secured to the respective holders and the cards inserted therein in the usual manner.

The ornamentation of the cabinet may be as elaborate as desired to make its appearance attractive or in harmony with its surroundings or with the pictures it contains. The sides and ends maybe of other material than glass; however transparent material is preferable to opaque for the purpose.

The lid may be hinged and secured by a hook or a lock, to prevent the pictures from being unnecessarily removed or stolen, or it may be removably secured in any other desired manner.

The pivot and standard shown in Fig. 2 are intended only for use on cabinets of the larger sizes.

The groove I may be omitted, together with the foot L on each of the holders K, when notches J are extended entirely across the top of the raised margins on both sides of the base and the holders are provided with knobs M on both ends to rest close to the frame to prevent end motion of the holders and by which they may be turned from either end.

l/Vhat I claim, and desire to ters Patent, is-- 1. In a cabinet album, the c0mbination,with a base, one side of which is provided with a longitudinal groove and with equidistant transverse notches, one end of each of which notches terminates in the longitudinal groove and the other end terminates at the opposite edge of the base, a card holder in each of the sald'notches, one end of which is provided with a foot to fit in the longitudinal groove, and the other end projects beyond the opposite edge of the base, and is provided with means for rotating it, and the intermediate portion of said holder is provided with means for holding cards,and a frame upon the base, the bottom of which rests upon and forms a cover for the grooves and notches in the base, substantially as set forth.

2. In acabinet album, thecombinatiomwith a base, one side of which is provided with a longitudinal groove, and with equidistant transverse notches, one end of each of which notches terminates in the groove and the other end terminates at the opposite edge of the base, a card holder in each notch consisting of a single pieceof wire, one end of which is provided with a foot to fit within the. groove, and the opposite end projects beyond the edge secure by Letof the base and is provided with means for rotating it, and the intermediate portion is provided with coils for the reception of the card, and a frame upon the base, the bottom of which covers the groove and the outer ends of the notches, whereby the removal of the wires is prevented, substantially as set forth.

3. A cabinet album, having in combination, a rectangular base, constructed with a raised margin on each side of its top surface, the face of the margin on one side being provided with a longitudinal groove and a series of equidistant transverse notches leading outwardly therefrom, the face of the opposite margin being intersected transversely by a series of corresponding notches, a series of card holders constructed of wire having. intermediate coils adapted to receive and engage the edge of the photo cards, one end of said holders terminating without said base and provided with a handle, and the other end terminating at an angle within said groove, and a rectangular case secured to the base on said margin whereby the, card holders are kept in place, substantially as set forth.
