Description
UNITED STATES PATENT OEEICE. v
JEAN LOERSCH, JR., OF DUSSELDORF, GERMANY.
COFFIN.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 501,190, dated July 11, 1893.
Application filed February 11, 1893. Serial No. L61,901. (No model.)
To @ZZ whom 'it may concern:
Beit known that I, JEAN LoERsCH, Jr., a subject of the German Emperor, residing at Dusseldorf, in Germany, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Oofiins, of which the followingis a speciiication.
This invention relates to a coftln provided with a holder that embraces the corpse and prevents it from slipping when the coiin is inclined during the funeral or when it is lowered into the grave.
In the accompanying drawings: Figure l is a cross section of my improved coiim, showin g the holder lowered and the arms b', turned down. Fig. 2 is a top view of the holder; Fig. 3 across section of the coffin, with the holder raised; Fig. 4 a similar cross section with the holder lowered and the arms turned up; Fig. 5 an elevation of arms b,with tubuvided at its free end with a spring hook n;
that engages an eye 0. To the bail b, there is secured a parallel tubular socket bin which turn the connected arms b', (Fig. 5.) These arms are locked in their lowered position (Fig. l) by means ot' spring hooks k, attached to the arms and adapted to be projected over the bail (Fig. 7).
In use, the bail is swung down and locked over the chest of Ithe corpse andthen the arms b', are turned down under the arms of the corpse, thus holding the latter securelyinA place.
l. The combination of a coiin with a bail adapted to be projected over the chest of a corpse, arms secured to such bail and catches for locking said arms against rotation, substantially as specified.
2. The combination of bail b, with a tubular socket b2, arms b', turning in the same and with catches la, for locking the arms against rotation substantially as specified. In testimony whereof I have signed this specification in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
JEAN LOERSCH, JR.
