G. A. RICHARD S & A. J. PRICE. SOCKET COVER FOR LIGHT FIXTURES. APPLICATION FILED FEB.8, 1912.
37, 9, Patented Sept. 10,1912.-
-- WWWMIHIWTIIIIIIIIII U ITED sTA'rEs PATENT ornion,
GEORGE A. .RIGI-IARDS AND 'ALFRED J. PRICE, OF WATERTOWN, WISCONSIN.
' SOCKET-COVER FOR LIGHT-FIXTURES.
- Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Sept. 10, 1912.
Application filed February a, 1912. Serial No. 676,234.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that we,.GEnoE A. RICHARDS and ALFRED J. PRICE, both citizens of the United States, and residents of Watertown, in the county of J eflerson and State of Wisconsin, have invented certain new and use ful Improvements in Socket-Covers for Light-Fixtures; and we do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact- (lescription thereof. v
Our invention consists in what is herein particularly set forth with reference to the accompanying drawings and pointed out in the claims of this specification, its object being to provide simple, economical, practical, efficient, durable and attractive separable angular and preferably shade-holder coversfor the bulb shank sockets of incan- J -descent electric-light fixtures, each cover having quick look and release means for holding ltslisections in union. These means serve instead of the screws ordinarily employed for the same purpose and are easy of manipulation as well as time saving in practice, the points of pressure upon locking devices to effect a separation of sections of each socket-cover being preferably at diagonally opposite corners ofthe same.
' Figure 1 represents a central vertical sec- Etion view of a separable square socket-cover as aforesaid provided with means in accordance with our invention forholding its sections in union, the plane of the section cutting diagonal corners of the socket-cover with which a fragment of a bulbshade is similarly shown in the same figure. Fig. 2 of the drawings represents a side elevation of said socket-cover and fragment of bulbshade therewith.
Referring by numerals to the drawings, 3"
indicates the body-section and t the capsection of a separable angular socket-cover of of said sectionof said cover. Bends 5 of the wires, intermediate of their ends, extend through corner slots 6 of the body-section of the socket-cover, and the free'ends of said with those of the body section, and the.
spring-wires being permitted to recoil their free ends extend through the registering eyes of both cover-sections to latch said capbody section of said cover. Y
It is preferable, as herein shown, tohave the free end 5 of each spring-wire latch 5 bent at an obtuse angle to the remainder thereof, whereby the ca -section of the socket-cover is caused to raw snug on the body section of the same, in engagement therewith, when said latches recoil.
The body-section 3 of the socket-cover is shown provided with the usual screws 7 by which to hold a bulb-shade 8 in connection with said cover.
From the foregoing it is to be understood that our invention has 110 function as an incandescent electric-light socket, but only as a cover for such a socket, and the cover is preferably made to serve as a hold erfor a shade for the bulb of an incandescent electrio-light.
We claim:
1. A separable angular socket-cover of an incandescent electric light fixture having the engaging ends of its body and cap sections provided with registering eyes, and spring-latches that being attached to one of said sections are engageable with said eyes of both and have the eye-engaging-end of each at an obtuse angle to the remainder thereof.
2. A separable angular socket-cover of an incandescent electric light fixture having the engaging ends of its body and cap sections provided with diagonally opposite registering corner eyes, and spring wires constituting latches secured in the eye-cora section in readily detachable union with said 11ers of the body-sec'ion of the cover, the town in the county of Jefferson and State of wires being bert to extend through adj M36111) Wisconsin in the presence of tW'O WItDBSSG S.
corner slots of said body section of said cover GEORGE A. RICHARDS. V and having the eye-engaging end of each'at ALFRED 'J. PRICE. 5 an obtuse angle to the remainder thereof. WVitnesses:
In testimony that We claim the foregoing ANNE N.MURPHY, We have hereunto set our hands at WVater- AUGUST 1V. S HWENKE.
Copies of this 'pateut maylbe obtained for five cents each, by addressing the Commissioner of latents,
