8&3; 1 I M UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
KARL KIRSOHNER, JR., OF RADLIC, NEAR PRAGUE, AUSTRIA-HUNGARY.
TOOL FOR SECURING CORK'S IN BOTTLES.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 500,395, dated June 27, 1893.
Application filed September 15, 1892. Serial No. 446.031. (N0 model.)
To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, KARL KIRSOHNER, J r., of Radlic, near Prague, in the Kingdom of Bohemia, Austro-Hungarian Empire, have invented new and useful Improvements in Tools for Securing Corks in Bottles, of which the following is a specification.
The ordinary bottle stoppers now in use forbeer bottles and like purposes have the disadvantage that they can be easily opened by unauthorized persons, and that consequently the consumer has not always the certainty of receiving the beer of the same quality as that sent out from the brewery.
The invention is illustrated in the accompanying drawings, in which Figure 1 is a side View, Fig. 2 an edge View, and Fig. 3 a top view of the tool employed, and Figs. 4 and 5 are a side view and a top view of a corked bottle neck secured by a lead stamp or sea].
The present invention has the object of supplying a lead stamp or seal for securing beer bottles. For this purpose a wire is bent round the bottle neck and over the cork in the usual manner; each end is then formed into a small eye, and a short piece of lead wire having been passed through the two eyes, the ends of the latter are flattened and marked on each side by means of a tool illustrated in the accompanying drawings.
The improved tool is composed of two handles a, a, pivoted together near one end as at b, and forming beyond said pivot the jaws (1,
cl, which are closed and opened in response to the closing and opening of the handles a. The opposed faces dot the jaws d are suitably marked with a letter or other character, and at one side there is secured to one jaw a gage plate e which serves to mark the length of wire to be severed, and at the opposite side, to the opposite jaw there is secured a knife f, for severing the piece so marked.
The bottle stopper comprises the usual cap 0 which is wired to the neck by the vertical wire bail a and the horizontal loop b, the eyes (L 19 of the bail and loop being interlocked and made to align. Then the lead wire 9 is passed through the aligning eyes and its ends flattened and marked by the tool described above.
Having thus fully described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent- A tool for lead stamping 0r sealing bottle corks, provided with punching surfaces 1' adapted to impress marks on the ends of a lead Wire, a gage plate 6 on one side, against which one end of the lead wire abuts, and a knife f on the opposite side which cuts off a suitable length of the lead wire, substantially as and for the purpose specified.
In witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand in presence of two witnesses.
' KARL KIRSOHNER, JR.
