BOTTLE-OPENER.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented se t. 26, 1916.
Application filed July 7, 1915. Serial No. 38,601.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, J OSEF HUTTER, a sub-- ject of the Emperor of Austria-Hungary, and resident of New York, in the county of New York and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Bottle-Openers, of which thefollowing is a specification.
The device forming the subject matter of the present invention is an improvement in opening means for bottle closures and consists in combined, in one inte al piece, parts of great simplicity and e ciency for performing the desired results.
The drawings illustrate in Figure 1, a side elevation of a bottle with its stopper and a cross section in line 11 of Fig. 2, of the bottle opener, Fig. the opener, and Figs. 3 vation and a bottle opener and 4, are a side eleplan view, respectively, of a combined with a cork screw.
A blank, of sheet material of sufficient strength and rigidity, such as is possessed by sheet steel, is punched by means of suitable dies, so as to form a handle 1, having a pair of prongs 2, at one end thereof. The blank, in the same punching operation, .is also formed with the lifting'shoulder 3, and the lever yoke 4. The shoulder is then beveled, as shown, to a relatively sharp engaging edge and the yoke is bent, first substantially at right angles to the plan of the blank, and then again in a plane about parallel thereto. The prongs are slightly curved, to better engage the neck of the 2 is a plan view of' bottle and the yoke is similarly bent to produce a more rigid supporting lever.
The device may be provided with a cork screw 5, pivoted at 6, or any other tool, useful in opening bottles, such as are closed with corks, etc.
.In the operation of the device, the prongs engage the neck of the bottle, the yoke rests on top of the bottle stopper, the shoulder engages the flange of the stopper, and by a lifting movement of the handle, the stopper is removed.
I claim:
. A bottle opener comprised of a single piece of sheet a pair of guide prongs suited to a bottle neck formed at one end and in the plane of said handle, said side of and beyond the neck, a sharply beveled element projecting from said handle between said prongs, its front edge being curved'to engage with the edge of the bottle cap, and a yoked lever element, formed with said handle, curved upward and outward to extend over and between said prongs in pometal including a fiat handle,
prongs extending on each sition to engage with the far side of the bottle cap whereby a leverage may be obtained in raising the same.
Signed at New York, in the county of New York vand State of New York this twenty-first day of June A. D. 1915.
