HAMPSHIRE.
FIRE OR WATER PROOF PAINT.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 500,346, dated June 27, 1893.
Application filed September 1. 1892. Serial No. 444,813. (No specimens.)
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that we, JAMES E. MCALPINE and GEORGE I-I. MOALPINE, citizens of the United States, residing at Concord, in the county of Merrimac and State of New Hampshire, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Fire or Water Proof Paint; and we do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
Our paint is composed of the following ingredients, combined in substantially the proportions stated, viz:coal tar, one barrel; crude petroleum oil, twenty gallons; benzine, three gallons; rosin, three pounds; sulphate of zinc, one pound; salsoda, seven pounds; linseed oil in sufficient quantity to produce the desired consistency.
The ingredients are thoroughly mixed by agitation.
The above composition makes a mostsatisfactory paint for use upon any exposed surfaces, as it is fire proof and water proof, and when used upon tin or other thin metal, it does not crack or peel 05, even though the metal upon which it has been spread is bent over double.
Having described our-composition, What we claim is A fire and Waterproof paint consisting of the ingredients and having the proportions as follows: coal tar, one barrel; crude petroleum, twenty gallo ns; b,e n z in e, three gallons; 1; si n, three pounds; sulphate of zinc, one pound; salsodm scven pounds; linseed oil in sufficient quantity to produce the desired consistency.
