Description

(No Model.)
P. ENGEL, Jr. PIPE HOLDER.
No. 500,230. Patented June 27,1893.
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
FRED ENGEL, JR, OF MUSKEGON, MICHIGAN.
PIPE-HOLDER.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 500,230, dated June 27, 1893.
Application filed January 23, 1893.
To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, FRED ENGEL, J r., acitizen of the United States, residing at Muskegon, in the county of Muskegon and State of Michigan, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Pipe-Holders; and I do declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same, reference being had. to the accompanying drawings, and to the letters of reference marked thereon, which form a part of this specification.
Ordinarily in pipe hangers and similar devices in which the clamp or holder is composed of two parts, these parts are hinged together at but one of their meeting edges and provided with means at the other for securing them together. With this construction the swinging part of the clamp is capable of being separated or swung open in but one direction after the device is in place. This is objectionable because it often happens after the device has been put in place an obstruction subsequently created prevents the movement of the hinged member and consequently the removal of the pipe without considerable difficulty. Besides there is a liability of the device being wrongly placed. The object of myinvention is to obviate these difliculties, and I accomplish it by constructing the parts of the holder or clamp so that they may be swung or operated from either side after the device has been secured in position.
In the drawings, Figure 1 is a perspective Serial No. 459,488. (No model.)
view representing the hanger applied to a pipe. Fig. 2 is a view of the same detached; and Figs. 3, 4:, 5, 6, and '7, illustrate modified forms of the means for securing the clamp in place.
As shown in the drawings, I preferably construct the clamp of two pieces of sheet metal A A and form both their meeting edges with tongues bent down to constitute hinge sockets C to receive pintle pins D D. The pins D D will removably engage the sockets so that, as Will be readily understood, the swinging partA maybe hingedat and opened from either side after the device has been secured in position. The part A is provided with a spike B to secure the holder in place. Any convenient devices, however, may be employed for this purpose. In Figs. 2 to 7 I have illustrated someapproved forms.
What I claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
In a hanger, a clamp or holder comprising two parts A A each provided with hinge sockets at both their meeting edges, the said sockets being constructed to removably receive pintle pins, whereby one of the parts A A may be hinged and opened respectively at either of their meeting edges after the hanger has been secured in position, substantially as shown and described.
In testimony whereof I affix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
