MUSIC-RACK.

Be it known that I, ROBERT BINNS, a citizen of the United States, residing at South Windham, 1n the county of Windham and Stateof Connecticut, have invented certain new and usefullmprovelnents in Music-Racks, of which the following is a specification.

My lnvention relates to improvements in music racks, and the object of my improvement is to furnish cheap, simple and efficient means for adjusting the rack or music table at diiferent angles to its standard.

In the accompanying drawings, Figure l is a s1de elevation of my music rack and the upper portion of the standard on which it is supported. Fig. 2 is a like view of the same when the rack is set at a different angle, and Fig. 3 is a rear View of said standard and middle portion of the rack.

The rack or tableA for receiving the sheet mus c or book may be of any ordinary form and is provided with a flange or ledge at its lower front edge that projects at an angle from its face as shown. I prefer to employa folding rack made up of a series of bars as shown. Near the middle of the rack or table on its back side is a socket 4 provided with a screw 5. This socket is rigidly secured so as to always have a fixed relation to the rack, and the opening through the socket is substantially parallel to said rack. It extends up and down at a right angle to the flanged edge, while that side which is nearest said rack extends substantially straight from right to left to serve as a firm and square seat for the supporting standard hereinafter described. The set screw 5 is on that side of the socket which is farthest from the rack.

The upper end of the standard 6 is curved toward the rear on a small radius as shown, the size of said curved part being such that it can readily enter and pass through the socket {1. That side of said upper end which forms its front and top is made square across laterally to fit the seat of the socket. The standard may be supported on any suitable legs or frame and made adjustable up and down to bring its curved upper end to different heights n any ordinary manner.

ard 6', the rack may be adjusted to stand at any desired angle to the standard between a horizontal and vertical position when it may again be firmly secured by tightening the clamping device. The rack may be adjusted to the desired height in any ordinary manner. By making the upper end of the standard on a small radius and placing the socket near the middle portion of the rack an adjustment of the angle of inclination will not materially change the height of the middle portion of the rack nor its distance from the user standing in front of the same. By making the socket with a seat that is square across from right to left and flattening the outer curved face of the upper end of the standard, the rack is always secured squarely and properly in position.

I claim as my invention- A flat music rack or table having a flanged lower front edge, a short socket rigidly secured to the middle portion of its back or under side with the opening therethrough extending up and down at a right angle to said flanged edge while the wall of said socket on the side nearest said rack is provided with a square seat, a standard having the upright body portion and rearwardly curved upper end on a curve of small radius with its outer side squared across to fit the seat of said socket, and a set screw on that side of said socket that is farthest from said rack substantially as described and for the purpose specified.
