Description
J. STEINER. Umbrella Suppqrt.
-No. 235,106. Patented De'c. 7,1880.
S E T T A INVENTOR.-
N. PETERS, PNQTO-LJTHOGRAPHER, WASHINGTON. D. C
UNITE STATES ATENT JULIUS STEINER, OF ST. LOUIS, MISSOUItI.
UMBRELLA-SUPPORT.-
SPECIFICATION formingpart of Letters Patent No. 235,106, dated December '7, 1880,
Application filed September 3, 1879.
To all whom it may concern:
Be itknown that I, JULIUS STEINER, of the city of St. Louis, in the State of Missouri, have invented certain Improvements in Adjustable UmbrellaHolders for Vehicles; and I do hereby declare that the following specification is a full, clear, and exact description of the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to the letters of reference marked thereon.
This invention relates to the construction of an umbrella-holder for vehicles which is cheap, durable, and effective in construction, and by means of which theumbrella can be adjusted to and firmly held in any desired position; and this invention consists in the arrangement of a spring sleeve'piece in which the umbrellastem is securely clamped, said sleeve being pivoted to a vertical sector plate or frame, so as to be vertically adjustable, and held to its adjustment by a clamping nut and screw, the sector-frame being made horizontally adjustable on its pedestal or bracket support, being tor this purpose provided with a stem which turns in a sleeve on said support, and is clamped in any desired position by a clampingscrew, all of which will hereinafter more fully appear.
In the drawings, Figure l is a perspective view. Fig. 2 is a detail side elevation.
A is the pedestal or bracket support, attached by screws or other means to the vehicleseat, and having at top a sleeve, a, in which turns the journal-stem of the sector'frame B, which is clamped and held in any desired horizontal position by the thumb-nut b.
To the sector-frameB is pivoted the springsleeve 0, in which the umbrella D (shown by dotted lines in Fig. l) is secured by means of clamping screw and nut O.
The sleeve C is provided with a thumb-nut and screw, 0, which passes through a curved slot, I), in the sector frame or plate B, so that it can be swung or adjusted vertically on its pivot in said plate, and securely clamped in any desired position by means of its thumbnut and screw 0. I
By means of the horizontal and vertical swinging adjustments, as above described, I am enabled to adjust the position of the umbrella in any desired manner, and it will be seen that the means employed will firmly and securely lock the parts in the desired position.
Having thus fully described my invention, what I claim is The bracket-support A, provided with a base for attachment to the wagon-seat, sleeve to, horizontally-adjustable sector-frame B, and clamping-nut b, in combination with the pivoted umbrella-holding sleeve 0, made adj ustable by thuinb-nut c, and curved slot 1), as herein described, and for the purpose set forth.
JULIUS STEINER.
