To all whom it may concern:

Be it known thatI, JOHN C. ANDERSON, 0 New Windsor, in the county of Mercer and State of Illinois, have invented a new and Improved Hame-Tug, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description.

My invention relates to improvements in harne tugs,such as are attached to hames and are adapted to connect with the traces of a harness.

The object of my invention is to produce an extremely cheap and simple tug, which may be readily attached to the hame so that it will not break at the clip end; which makes the joint in the right place for easy action; which is constructed in a single piece, thus making it cheap and strong; which is light and contains but comparatively little metal; which has very little friction on the clip or staple with which it connects, and which may be easily removed when necessary.

To these ends my invention consists in certain features of construction and combinations of parts, which will be hereinafter described and claimed.

Reference is to be had to the accompanying drawings, forming a part of this specification, in which similar figures of reference indicate corresponding parts in both views.

I Figure 1 is a perspective view of the tug as applied to a trace; and Fig. 2 is a detail side elevation of the tug.

The tug clip 10 is madein the form of a loop, the open end of which may be closed as hereinafter described, and which has a rounded front end adaptedtorideeasily upon the cliporstaple of the hame. The tug clip 10 is provided with rear branching members 11, which at their free ends terminate in eyes 12, in which the fastening rivet is placed, and these branches or prongs 11 are curved upward and outward, as shown at 13, so as to give the necessary width to the loop of the clip, and at their forward ends the prongs merge in a single piece 14, which is doubled and returned upon itself, as shown at 15, thus forming the end of the loop, and it extends back opposite the central portion of the clip and between the prongs 11, as shown at 16, the single member terminating in an eye 17, which is also adapted to receive the fastening rivet, and which consequently aligns with the eyes 12. The fastening rivet 18 extends through the eyes 12 and 17, so that the clip has a hearing atthree points and is therefore exceptionally strong while yet 5 very light. This fastening rivet 18 or its equivalent forms the connection between the clip and the leather loop 19, which is of the usual kind and carries at its free end a buckle 20, to which the trace 21 is attached. The loop 19 is provided with a leather keeper 22,

to receive the free end of the trace, and also with a metallic keeper 23, which on one side is held within the loop, and which is adapted to fit over the free end of the trace. The clip is inserted in the hame staple by removing the rivet 18, then hooking the clip upon the staple, and then re-inserting the rivet.

Having thus described my invention, 1 claim as new and desire to secure by Letters 7c Patent As an improved article of manufacture the hame tug clip 10 formed of a single looped piece the rear end of one side of which is hifurcated forming the prongs 11, the other arm 16 extending inwardly between the prongs to the rear ends thereof, the ends of the prongs 11 and arm 16 being formed with aligned apertures or eyes 12, 17 to receive the pintle or pin 18, substantially as set forth.
