SARAH WILKINS, OF RED JACKET, MICHIGAN.
SPLASHER-HOLDER.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 496,928, dated May 9, 1893.
Application filed August 26, 1892, Serial No. 444,208. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, SARAH WILKINs,a citizen of the United States, residing at Red Jacket, in the county of Houghton and State of Michigan, have invented certain new and useful Improvementsin S plasher'Holders and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
My invention relates to splasher holders for washstands and the object of the invention is to provide a convenient, light frame for holding a splasher, towels, sponges, &c., which may be readily attached to the wash'stand, easily adjusted to the length and width of the splasher, cheaply constructed and be neat and ornamental.
The invention consists in certain novel features which will be hereinafter described and claimed.
In the annexed drawings, Figure 1 isa front elevation of a splasher holder constructed in accordance with my invention, showing it in position on a washstand, and Fig. 2 is a plan view of the splasher.
I11 carrying out my invention, I employ a standard or support A which is composed of two members a, b, as shown. The lower member, a, is rigidly secured to the back of the washstand and is provided, near its upper end, with a vertical slot 0. The upper member is provided with the two upwardly diverging arms 0 and is adj ustably secured to the lower member by means of a set screw (I inserted through the slot 0 into its lower end. This set screw can be turned home at any desired point of the slot and the standard thus adjusted to the width or height of the splasher.
The outer ends of the arms 0 are provided with the clamps D in which I adjustably secure the supporting bars E by means of set screws 6, as clearly shown. These supporting bars are provided with hooks f at their inner ends adapted to supportsponges, brushes, 850., and near their outer ends they are provided with the small hooks g adapted to engage the corners of the splasher. The splasher is passed over these hooks gand the supporting bars are then pushed outward and secured, thus drawing the splasher taut and holding the same in its proper position.
To the ends of the supporting arms I pivot the towel racks F which are provided at their free ends with the rings G likewise adapted to hold towels. The towel racks, being pivoted to the supporting arms, may be swung back against the wall out of the way or may be swung forward so as to bring the towel within easy reach of the person using the washstand.
From the foregoing description, taken in connection with the accompanying drawings, it will be seen that I have provided a very simple and efficient splasher holder. The advantages of the device are thought to be sufficiently obvious as to need no detail mention.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
1. The combination with the standard, of splasher supporting bars secured to theupper portion of the same and having spongeholding hooks at their inner ends, and towel racks pivoted tothe outer ends of the splasher supporting bars.
2. The combination of the extensible standard having upwardly diverging arms, clamps at the ends of said arms, splasher supporting bars held by said clamps and provided with sponge-holding hooks at their inner ends, and towel racks pivoted to the outer ends of the said bars.
In testimony whereof I affix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
SARAH YVILKINS.
