Description

E. 0. MARSHALL.
DRAINER FOR 11181153.
Patented 001;. 24, 1 893.
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
EMILY G. MARSHALL, OF PHILADELPHIA, PENNSYLVANIA.
DRAINER FOR DISHES.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 507,233, dated October 24, 1893.
Application filed June 26, 1893. Serial No. 478,908. No model.)
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, EMILY O. MARSHALL, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, have invented certain Improvements in Drainers for Dishes, of which the following is a specification.
My invention consists of a device for draining dishes, one of the main features being that it can be folded.
In the accompanying drawingsFigure 1 is a perspective View of my invention, ready for use. Fig. 2 is an enlarged sectional view showing part of my invention. Fig. 3 is an enlarged sectional view showing another part of my invention. Fig. 4 is a vertical section slightly reduced, of my drainer showing the supports hinged to the frame.
In Fig. 1, Ais the main frame of the drainer. The base of this frame is bent into the form clearly shown in Fig. 1. This U shaped receptacle B, which forms one of the supports of the frame A, catches the drip water, and is also adapted to hold the knives, forks, &c. Attached to the frame A, by hinges d d, are two flaps or shelves 0, C, but it will be understood that any number can be used without departing from my invention. These shelves are supported by chains b, b, and are adapted to hold the dishes, saucers, 850., while draining. The hinges d, d allow sufficient space between the shelves and the back frame for the drainage to pass'through, as
more clearly shown in Fig. 2. These shelves are preferably set at a slight upward angle.
At the upper part of the frame A are attached the hooks a, (1., upon which are hung the cups, bowls, 850. These hooks are preferably made of one piece and are bent into the form shown in Fig. 3. The upper row of hooks a is particularly adapted for holding bowls or other deep vessels which can be readily hung upon them as shown by dotted lines in Fig. 3. Attached to the back of the frame A, by hinges, are two supports e which are held distended by hooks f. In the upper part of the frame are two holes 0 0 upon which the drainer can be hung, when itis so desired, by folding the supports e..
Having now fully described my invention, I claim and desire to secure by Letters Patent A dish drainer comprising the main frame A, supports e, arms f, trough B, at the base of the frame, shelves 0, .0, hinged to the frame A and supported by chains b, I), respectively, and hooks a, a, all combined substantially as described.
