J. H. MATTHEWS. DOOR SEGURBR.
No. 496,887. Patented m 9, 1-893.
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
JEREMIAH I-I. MATTHEWS, OF SOUTH BEND, INDIANA.
DOQR-SECURER.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 496,887, dated May 9, 1893.
I Application filed November 14,1892. Serial No. 451.998. (No model.) I
To aZZ whom it mag concern.-
Be it known that I, JEREMIAH H. MATTHEWS, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of South Bend, in the county of St. Joseph and State of Indiana, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in a Combination Door-securer and Corkscrew, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to that class of removable or portable door securers and cork screws, which can be conveniently carried in the vest pocket when not in use; and is always ready and handy to secure a door without the use of a key; or to pull a cork from a bottle, &c.
This invention consists of my door securer, patented November 1, 1892, with an improved nut which is so formed, that a thimble like case fits overboth endsof the same, thereby forming a case for the door securer, as well as for the cork screw, which is so constructed that it fits directly over the bolt of the door securer when in the case, thereby allowing the case to be made small enough to be conveniently carried in the vest pocket and which secures the pocket from being torn by the spurs of the door securer, or by the sharp point of the cork screw.
To this end, the invention consists of the improvements which Iwill now proceed to describe and claim.
Of the accompanying drawings, forming a part of this specification, Figure 1 represents a perspective view of my case. Fig. 2 repre sents a sectional view of the door securer, with the cork screws in their positions in the case when not in use. Fig. 3 shows the improved nut, which is part of the case, with parts broken away to show the inside formation. Fig. 4 shows position of cork screw, with the bolt of the door securer as a handle when in position to extract a cork from a bottle, &c. Fig. 5 shows a perspective view of a door broken away with the door securer and the improved nut in place.
A, in the drawings is the complete case.
bottle, &c.
that direction in which the door opens, and
with the spur b, pointing toward the jamb which will be forced into the same by closing the door and which can then be securely fastened by simply turning the not until it rests on the surface of thedoor and casing, and which can be secured as herein described,
without interfering with the cork screw, or
taking it out of the case.
If a cork is to be extracted, the bolt B, is inserted through the eye 0 of the cork screw 0, which forms a handle therefor, and by which a cork can easily be extracted from a Having thus described lny invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
A combined door securer, cork screw and case, consisting of the round nut at, having the orifice a and the collar a thethreaded bolt B, the cork screw 0, with the eye c,-said cork screw fitting into the orifice of the nut a and over the bolt B, said bolt forming part of door securer and handle for cork screw, the
nut a, forming part of door securer and the case A, the thimbles a, and a with the nut a, forming the case A, all substantially as shown and described.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing as my invention I have signed my name in presence of two subscribing witnesses.
JEREMIAH H. MATTHEWS.
