VEGETABLE 0R MEAT CUTTER.
No. 196,7561 Patented May 2, 1893.
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
NELSON R. STREETER, OF GROTO N, NEW YORK.
VEGETABLE OR MEAT CUTTER.
SPECIFICATION forming m of Letters Patent No. 496,756, dated May 2, 1893. 7 Application filed December 21,1892. Serial No. 455,957. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I NELSON R. STREETER, of Groton, in the county of Tompkins and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Vegetable or Meat Cutters and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it pertains to make and use it, reference being had to the accompanying drawing, whieh forms part of this specification.
My invention relates to improvements in vegetable and meat cutters; and it consists in the construction of parts which will be fully described hereinafter and particularly referred to in the claims.
The object of my invention is to providea meat and vegetable cutter having parallel blades, a handle to which the blades are attached by means of a clamping bolt at .their centers, the clamping portion and the handle and the blades being constructed to allow them to be readily detached to be turned around, or vertically adjusted, and which will not allow them to have any rocking movement independently of the handle.
The accompanying drawing is a perspective view of a cutter which embodies my invention.
A is the handle which is provided at its lower portion with a central transversely extending portion 13. This portion is provided with a longitudinal opening for the passage of a clamping bolt 0. One end of the clamping bolt is formed with a head, and the opposite end is screw threaded to receive a tightening nut D. Above the opening for the clamping bolt are the outwardly extending studs E, which enter slots G, made in the central portions II of the parallel blades I. 1 By means of this construction, the blades are quickly and readily attached to and detached from the handle, as will be readily understood, for the purpose of sharpening them, or for convenience in packing for shipment, and also quickly adjusted vertically by simply loosening the clamping bolt.
Instead of forming the slots in the blades with open upper ends, the upper ends maybe closed, thus forming merely an elongated opening in the upper portion of the blades, the result being the same for the purpose of adjustment and for the purpose of removing the blades, except in the latter case the bolt would have to be removed from the handle, while in the former case the bolt need not be removed, but the nut simply loosened.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent,is-
.1. A cutter comprising a handle having a transverse portion B provided with a longitudinal clamping bolt opening and studs ad-' jacen t thereto, blades having openings in their upper ends, and a clamping bolt passing through the portion B and the openings in the blades, the said blades engaging the projections to prevent them from rocking.
2. A cutter comprising a handle havinga horizontal clamping bolt opening and studs or projections adjacent to the said opening and in a vertical line therefrom, blades provided with slots in their upper ends extending from the upper edges thereof which receive the studs and extend over the said clamping bolt opening, and a clamping bolt passing through the said handle opening and through the slots in the blades.
In testimony whereof I affix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
NELSON R. STREETER.
