GLOTHES POUNDER.
5 No. 496,506. Patented May 2,1893.
cl vI "I" w. I Ihven-r: V 'eo geflflilgaier UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
GEORGE E. ALLGAIER, OF HILLSBOROUGH, TEXAS.
CLOTHES-POUNDER.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent N 0. 496,506, dated May 2, 1893. Application filed December 24, 1892- Serial No. 456,266. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, GEORGE E. ALLGAIER,
a citizen of the United States, residing at Hillsborough, in the county of Hill and State of Texas, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Atmospheric Clothes- Pounders; and I do declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to the letters of reference marked thereon, which form a part of this specification.
My invention is an atmospheric clothespounder; and it consists in the novel construction and arrangement of its parts.
In the accompanying drawings: Figure 1, is a perspective view of my invention. Fig. 2, is an inverted sectional view of Fig. 1, taken on the line 2, 2.
My invention is described as follows:
a, is a hollow cylinder.
1), is a cone-shaped cup having its upper edge I), secured to the cylinder a, near its upper end at the point indicated by the letter 0, its lower edge being a little more than flush with the lower end of the cylinder a.
(Z, is an inner cup having straight sides and having its upper edge secured to the inner face of the cup I), not far from its lower edge at a point indicated by the letter 6; attached to and extending from the outer face of the cylinder a, are four radial divisions f, the outer edges of which are attached to the inner face of the cup d, and extending on upwardly to a point are attached to the inner face of the outer cone-shaped cup I), from the point indicated by the letter a, to the point indicated by the letter 0, (Fig. 2.) Attached to the outer face of the cup cl, and radially extending therefrom are divisions g, the outer edges of which extend upward to the point indicated by the letter 6, and are attached to the inner face of the cone-shaped cup I); these attachments are air-tight so that no aircan pass from one division to the other.
I claim an improvement consisting of the following points: Dividing the outer section into compartments so that air in escaping is distributed evenly from all sides of the pounder instead of escaping in a body from one side, whenever the pounder strikes a wad or knot of clothes and is tipped sidewise; it also makes the suction better, for the same reason; in other words: the compartments in: sure an equal pressure and suction regardless of any inequalities of the surface of the clothes with which the pounder comes in contact. The inner compartments are for the purpose as described for the outer compartments and the radial divisions f, besides dividing the space between the cylinder at, cups 1?, (1, into compartments act as braces supporting the cylinder a, that holds the handle h. Also by this method of bracing the whole pounder, the pounder is made perfectly rigid and substantial.
Having described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
The pounder, consisting of the hollow cylinder a; cone-shaped cup 1), its lower edge a little more than flush with the lower end of said cylinder, its upper edge secured to said cylinder near its upper end; inside cup d, its lower edge nearly flush with the lower edge of the cup b, its upper edge attached to the inner face of cup b, at a point not far from the lower edge of said cup; radial divisions f, having their inner edges secured to the outer face of the cylinder a, and their outer edges secured to the inner face of the cup d, up to its contactwith cup b, then to the inner face of cup b, up to its contact with cylinder a; and radial divisions g, having their inner edges secured to the outer face of the cup (i, and their outer edges to the inner face of the cup 12, up to its contact with cup d, all substantially as shown and described and for the purposes set forth.
In testimony whereof I aliix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
GEORGE E. ALLGAIER.
