Description

UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
JAMES BANKS, OF'PORT BLANCHARD, PENNSYLVANIA.
COAT-HOLDER.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 496,289, dated April 25, 1893.
Application filed July 14, 1892- Serial No. 440,039. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that 1, JAMES BANKS, a citizen of the United States of America, residing at Port Blanchard, in the county of Luzerne and State of Pennsylvania, have invented certain newand useful Improvements in Coat-Holders, of which the following is a specification, reference being had therein to the accompanying drawing.
My invention relates to devices for holding coats and other'garments to which it is adapted while the wearer is putting them on.
The object of my invention is to produce a neat and convenient device for holding coats while being put on; and it consists of a suitable wall attachment provided with adjusting hooks and a holder for the garment.
In the accompanying drawing, which is a perspective view of myinvention, A indicates a plate which is secured to the wall by the screws 0, O or in any suitable manner, and is provided with hooks B which are riveted or otherwise suitably attached to said plate.
D, is the holder which is formedof a'continuons piece of wire or other material, bent in the shape shown in the drawing. This holder is hung on one of the hooks B by the loop (1. When in use the coat is placed on the holder with the rear of the collar down the holder being adjusted to the height of the wearer by placing it on a corresponding hook.
The operation of the device is as follows: After properly adjusting the holder D. in height about to the lower part of the chin, the garment is placed over the part E by passing the said part under the collar. then inserted into the sleeves and as the garment is drawn upon the shoulders and made taut the collar disengages from the part E and will come up snug to the neck without disturbing the under-clothing.
'It will be seen that a device constructed substantially as described will be very useful, simple, and will not tear or otherwise injure the clothing.
Having thus described my inve'ntion,what
The arms are t I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
The herein described coat holder consisting of a support for the coat rectangular in form and having an integral loop at one side projecting at an angle to the plane of the support for suspending it, in combination with the attaching plate havinga series of hooks upon which the holder maybe suspended at different heights, substantially as described.
In testimony whereof I affix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
JAMES BANKS.
