CORKSCREW.

SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 495,386, dated April 11, 1893. Application filedAugust 18, 1892. Serial No. 443,441. (No model.)

To all whom it may concern.-

Be it known that I, ALBERT RICHARD WEISZ, a citizen of the United States, residing at of Kings and State of New York, have invented new and useful Improvements in Corkscrews, of which the following is a specification.

This invention relates to cork screws and the invention consists in certain novel features which are set forth in the following specification and claims and illustrated in the annexed drawings, in which Figure 1 is a side elevation of the cork screw about to be inserted and sectioned along 00 a; Fig. 2. Fig. 2, is a plan view of Fig. 1. Fig. 3, is a view similar to Fig. 1 showing the cork screw inserted.

The bracket A is secured to a table orsupport B and said bracket has an open cap or throat 0 against which is held the mouth of the bottle D containing the cork E to be drawn. The bracket A carries a tube F in which can slide and rotate a rod G provided at one end with the cork screw proper Hand at the other with a screw thread I. On the rod G is firmly secured a head K provided with a notch L adapted for the engagement of a latch or dog M pivoted or jointed at N to the handle or crank O. Said dog M is weighted or balanced so that when the parts are in the position shown in Fig. 1, said dog will fall into or engage notch L. The handle or lever 0 extends from a nut P tapped to engage the screw thread I.

When the cork screw proper H rests on a cork (Fig. 1) and the handle 0 is properly rotated the dog M will cause the parts I G H to rotate so that the part H enters the cork (Fig.

3) and when the dog M strikes the sleeve F said dog is moved out of engagement with notch L. The rotation of handle 0 being continued while the parts I GH have stopped rotating the thread of nut P which continues rotating with handle 0 will act on the screwthread I to raise the latter and draw the cork.

What I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is

1. The combination with a bracket A carrying a bottle supporting cap 0 and a tubular guide F, a rod G carrying a cork screwHand provided with a screw thread I, and a nut P fitting the screw thread, of a handle 0 secured to the nut, and a dog M carried by and movable back and forth on said handle for engagement with and disengagement from a part of the screw threaded rod, substantially as described.

2. The combination with a bracket A carrying a bottle supporting cap 0 and the tubular guide F of arod Gcarrying the corkscrew H and provided with a screw thread I and a notched head K the nut P fitting this screw thread, the handle 0 secured to the nut and the dog M for engaging the notched head K to throw the nut P automatically into gear with the rod G substantially as described.

3. lhe combination with a bracket A carrying a bottle supporting cap 0 and the tubular guide F, of a rod G carrying the cork screw H and provided with a screw thread I the nut P fitting the screw thread, the handle 0 secured to the nut and the dog M for rigidly connecting the nut with the rod said dog being adapted to strike in its descent upon the guide F to be moved to the releasing position substantially as described.
