Description
M. BADONL BOX PASTENER (No Model.)
No. 493,203. Patented Mar. 7,1893.
guy/Q UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
MASSIMILIANO BADONI, OF GENEVA, SWITZERLAND, ASSIGNOR TO ALOYS REVILLIOD DE MURALT, OF SAME PLACE.
BOX-FASTEN ER.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 493,203, dated March '7, 1893.
Application filed June 20, 1892.
To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, MASSIMILIANO BADONI, mechanician, of Geneva, Switzerland, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Spring-Clasp Devices for Caskets, Jewel- Boxes, and Similar Articles, of which the fol lowing is a specification.
This invention consists of a simple and cheap spring clasp for caskets, jewel boxes and the like.
In the accompanyingdrawings I have shown 110W my said invention may be conveniently and advantageously carried into practice.
Figure 1 is a cross section of part of a casket and its cover provided with my improved spring clasp showing the said cover partly shut. Fig. 2 is a similar section of the said casket showing the cover shut. Fig. 3 is a section on the line a: y of Fig. 2. Fig. 4 is a perspective view of a half open casket provided with the improved clasp. Fig. 5 is a similar View of the same when shut. Figs. 6 to 10 inclusive show details of the different parts of the device detached.
Similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts in the several figures of the drawings.
The clasp proper is formed as a spring as shown in Figs. 6 and 8 and consists of a footpiece A intended to be fixed to the box or casket, a spring portion or blade A of suitable elasticity,a V-shaped part A A the portion A of which is provided with a hole at having sharp edges a and a and a finger piece A at the end to project out of the box or casket and to be acted upon by hand when the'cover is to be opened. The hole or Inortise a of said clasp A may be square, round, elliptical or of any other suitable form, the edges of said hole being left sharp, as shown at a 0. so as to firmly grasp the pin B. The said pin may be cylindrical, square or of other shut.
Serial No. 437,412. (No model.)
shape and is fixed to the casket D when the clasp A is fixed to the cover E and Vice versa. The said pin B may consist of a simple nail or screw and the clasp A is suitably formed and fixed to the cover E (or box D) so as to engage with its hole a over the said pin B, as shown in Figs. 1, 2 and 3 when the cover E is The sharp edges a, 0. of the hole a grip the pin B and the clasp Abeing pressed toward said pin B so as to produce such gripping (see Fig. 2) the cover E will be firmly closed. Any attempt to open the cover will produce a pressure upon the spring clasp A in the direction of the arrow 1 (Fig. 2) and this'press'ure will augment the gripping action of the clasp A on the pin B.
To open the casket or box it is only necessary to press the end of the clasp A in the direction indicated by the arrow 2 in Fig. 2, this pressure disengaging the said clasp A from the pin B. The pin or stop Oisintended to limit the down-stroke of the clasp A.
Having thus fully described my invention, I claim-- A fastening device for boxes, composed of a pin and a spring blade rigidly attached at one end and having a finger piece orlifter at the other end, and a V shaped bend adjacent to the finger piece, there being a mortise through one part of the bend to receive the stationary pin, whereby the edges of the metal at the mortise engage the pin for holding the lid in position, or such edges are released when the finger piece is lifted, substantially as set forth.
In testimony whereof I have signed my name to this specification in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
MASSIMILIANO BADONI.
