Description
(N0 deL MER'ON, BED TOM.
No. 492,135. Patented Feb. 21, 1893.
STATES PATENT OFFICE.
ALEXANDER A. CAMERON, OF OOBBVILLE, GEORGIA.
BED-BOTTOM.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 492,135, dated February 21, 1893.
Application filed September 12, 1892. Serial No. 445,655. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, ALEXANDER A. CAM- ERON, a citizen of the United States, residing at Oobbville, in the county of Telfair and State of Georgia, have invented a new and useful Bed-Bottom, of which the following is a speci- 'fication.
My invention relates to improvements in bed-bottoms, the object in view being to provide a simple, cheap and resilient bottom which may be placed within the bedstead frame and removed therefrom at will, the supporting surface of which may be adjusted or tightened as desired.
Further objects and advantages of my invention will appear in the following description and the novel features thereof will be particularly pointed out in the appended claim.
In the drawings; Figure 1 is a perspective view showing the bed-bottom arranged in the operative position in a bedstead; Fig. 2 is a bottom plan view of the bed-bottom; Fig. 3 is a transverse sectional view of the same.
A represents the bedstead, having the siderails, 13 B, the end-rails, O O, and the slats, D, and E represents the improved bed-bottom, which is arranged Within the frame of the bedstead and rests upon the slats.
The bed-bottom is provided with a rectangular frame, F, corresponding in shape to that of the bedstead and of a size to fit snugly therein, and the webbing, G, is secured to the ends of the frame, its side edges being connected to the clamping or tension device, H, which is arranged beneath the frame. This tension device comprises, essentially, the parallel similar members, K K, each consisting of two connected sections, 7010'. The sections,
it, which are arranged close to the underside of the frame, are provided with longitudinal tongues, L, to fit in corresponding channels or grooves, L, in the sections, it, and the sideedges of the webbing are carried over and around the upper sections, is, and are engaged by the said tongues and held thereby in the channels or grooves in the lower sections, 70. The two members of the tension device are connected by tension-screws, M M, passing transversely and horizontally there-through, and engaged at their projecting ends by nuts, N N, whereby, by adjusting the nuts the tension of the webbing may be increased or diminished at will, as will be readily understood,by reference to the drawings. The separable sections of each member are secured together by the vertical bolts, 0 0, whose heads, 0 0, rest upon the upper surface of the sections, In, and which are engaged beneath the lower sections, it, by the nuts, 0 0.
The operation of the device will be understood without further description.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent of the United States, is
In a bed-bottom, the combination of a rectangular frame consistingof end and side bars, webbing stretched transversely over the frame and extending at its side edges beneath the same, and a tension-device comprising relatively adjustable twin-bars or member'sK K, engaging the adjacent side edges of the Webbing beneath the frame, and adjusting bolts N engaging horizontally aligned apertures in said bars or members, each bar or member of this tension device comprising upper and lower separable sections k provided respectively with a tongue andacorresponding groove, and vertical securing bolts 0 engaging registering apertures in the sections, the side edges of the webbing being carried over the bars or members, down their inner or adjacent surfaces, andbetween the separable sections thereof, substantially as specified.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing as my own I have hereto affixed my signature in the presence of two witnesses.
ALEXANDER A. CAMERON.
