UNITED STATEs PATENT OFFICE,
SAMUEL NEXVMAN, OF BUFFALO, NEW' YORK.
TRACING-WHEEL.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 491,'716, dated February 14, 1893.
Application filed January 25, 1892. Serial No. 419,128. (No model.)
To a/ZZ whom, it may conccrn:
Be it known that I, SAMUEL NEWMAN, a citizen of the United States, residing in Buffalo, in the couuty of Eric and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Tracing-Whecls, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to a new and Useful device for tracing patterns on paper or for analogous uses by means of a series of teeth upon a wheel pivoted to a small holding piece by which it is adapted to be held in the fingers while Operating it, all of which will be fully and clearly hereinafter described and claimed, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, in which- Figure 1 is a side elevation, showing the device complete. Fig. 2,is a top view, showing the tracing Wheel pivoted in the holding piece. Fig. 3, is an end or edge view of the deviee complete.
Referring to the draWings-.the holding piece,1, consists of a strip of sheet metal bent and secured together` so as to leave an opening, 2, within which is pivoted by a pin, 3, a
wheel, Lt. This wheel, 4:, is preferably made of steel but it may be of any other suitable material, brass, for instance would answer a good purpose aithough not being so hard it would not last as long. On the periphery of the wheel 4, is a series of teeth, 5, which incline back in the direction of the arrow, V, the object of which is to allow the teeth, 5, to enter and leave the paper more easily as the device is drawn back over it or in the direction of the arrow, V. By this construction two, or more, thicknesses of paper may be easily traced and perforated by the teeth, 5.
The Operation will bereadily understood from the foregoing description and drawings.
I claim as my invention.
In a device for tracing patterns the combination, consisting of a surrounding holding piece, 1, a wheel, 4, pivoted therein by a pin, 3, and a series of inclined teeth on said wheel, for the purposes set forth.
SAMUEL NEWMAN.
