PESSARY.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 489,050, dated January 3, 1893.
Application filed March 5, 1892. Serial No. 423,933. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, JULIUS J. VERNIER, a citizen of the United States,residing atToledo, in the county of Lucas and State of Ohio, have invented a new and useful Uterine Supporter and Menstrual Sack, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to surgical devices;
and it has for its object to'provide an improved device designed to be used as a combined uterine supporter and menstrual receptacle.
To this end it is the main object of the present invention to provide certain important and useful improvements in connection with my former patent dated February 2, 1892, No. 467,963, so that a supporter and receptacle is combined in a single apparatus, which is not only simple in construction, but is easily adjusted to and comfortably worn by the wearer.
With these and many other objectsin view, which will readily appear as the nature of the invention is better understood, the same consists in the novel construction, combination and arrangement of parts hereinafter more fully described, illustrated and claimed.
In the accompanying drzuvings:-Figure 1 is a perspective view of a device constructed in accordance with the present invention. Fig. 2 is a similar View of the various parts of the device dissembled.
Referring to the accompanying drawings; A represents a telescopic tube adjustable to vaginas of dilferent depths, and terminating at its upper end in the womb receiving cup B, which rests over the neck of the womb. The lower end of the telescopic tube terminates in an annular head or flange O having on its periphery the parallel annular grooves D, the lowermost of which groove receives the detachable sack or bag E, designed for the reception of the menstrual flow and other foreign matter. Such construction is similar to that described in my former patent, above mentioned, exceptinga supplemental annular groove in the head or flange O, which receives the supportingbands orcords F. Thesupporting cords F are preferably the ordinary rubber cord, but of course may be any suitable elastic cord or band, and the said supporting cords F are formed of one continuous piece of cord to form opposite thigh portions and an intermediate integral supporting ring G. The said integral ring G is located between the opposite thigh portions of the cords, which separate from each other at the ring, and is designed to be sprung into the uppermost of the groove D to hold the receptacle and support in position in the vagina. One terminal of each of the opposite thigh cords F terminate in the front of the body in the buckles H, Whichare engaged by the other free ends of the cords, which pass from between the limbs over the thigh and down to the said buckles in front of the body. The said thigh cords are supported at the hips by the belt I, encircling the waist of the wearer and pro vided on opposite sides thereof with the supporting pulleys J, which receive said cords at the hips and on the side, and not only serve to easily hold the instrument into the vagina, but also allow every motion of the body to be readily given to, so that the device will be easy and comfortable to wear.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim and desire to secure by Letters Patent 1s;
In a device of the class described, a body band or belt having supporting pulleys on each side thereof at the hips, a womb supporter and menstrual receptacle having an annularly grooved head, and a single continuous elastic supporting cord or band provided with an integral supporting ring sprung into said grooved head, and opposite thigh portions diverging from said ring and passing over said pulleys on each side of the body,
substantially as set forth.
