To all whmn it may concern.-

Be it known that I, EDWARD J. CUMMINGS, of Quincy, county of Norfolk, State of Massachusetts, have invented an Improvement in Trunk-Trays, of which the following description, in connection with the accompanying drawings, is a specification, like letters on the drawings representing like parts.

This invention has for its object to provide an improved trunk tray for the transportation of suspenders, and which may be used when necessary to display the suspenders to advantage.

The drawings Figure 1 shows in plan view a trunk tray embodying this invention, a sufficient number of pairs of suspenders being shown to illustrate the manner of carrying and displaying the same; Fig. 2, a cross section of the same on the dotted line 000c; and Fig. 3, an enlarged sectional detail of one of the rivet posts to which the suspenders are buttoned.

Referring to the drawings, the tray A consisting of a bottom a, and sides a',is and may be of usual construction, the same being made to fit and be carried in usual manner by any usual trunk or case, a portion of the sides of which are shown at A, Fig. 2. The tray at its interior is provided along one side with a series of button studs B, to which the suspenders may be buttoned or secured, the said studs as shown in Fig. 3, each consisting of a preferably tubular rivet I), inserted through the bottom of the tray and turned over or flanged as at b at the underside thereof. A thimble b is inserted between the head b of the rivet and the tray bottom, said thimble by its outwardly flanged bottom b providing a shoulder or abutment against which tray bottom a rests when the rivet is headed, the thimble at the same time adding to the finished appearance of the stud.

In practice, the pairs of suspenders s will be folded each upon itself, and both of the front button straps s buttoned to the same studs as shown in Fig. 1, the suspenders being arranged in the tray as shown with the button straps of one pair crossing or overlaplength, and at the same time presents an attractive appearance to the eye, the attractiveness of each pair being clearly displayed. The free ends of the suspenders which when being displayed are permitted to hang over the edge of the tray opposite the studs B, see dotted lines Fig. 2, are held from displacement by a clamping strap a riveted or buttoned to the tray bottom at c, and provided with one or more slots or buttonh'oles c by which the strap may be buttoped to suitable studs 0 which hold the strap in place. The fastening device or strap 0 is separated from the edge of the tray to leave aspace 20 through which the protruding free ends of the suspenders are passed to permit them to drop or hang over the edge of thetray While being displayed and yet be held from lateral displacement by the fastening device. This strap is easily unbuttoned when a pair of suspenders is to be removed from the tray, it providing a neat, attractive and convenient means for holding the suspenders in place. When the tray is placed in the trunk, the free or overhanging ends of the suspenders are folded back over and upon the tray as shown by full lines Fig. 2.

This invention isnot limited to the particular arrangement and construction of the various parts shown, as the same may be varied without departing from the spirit and scope of the invention as set forth in the claims.

I claim 1. A trunk tray for suspenders provided along one side with a series of button studs to which the button straps of suspenders may be buttoned, and provided at the side opposite the button studs with a fastening device to hold the free ends of the suspenders, said fastening device being separated from the edge of the tray to leave a space through which the free ends of the suspenders may be be buttoned, and a fastening device consisting of a strap at the opposite side of the tray to hold the free ends of the suspenders in place, said fastening device being separated from the edge of the tray to leave a space through which the free ends of the suspenders beyond the fastening device may be passed to permit them to drop or hang over the edge of the tray while being displayed, substantialiy as described.-

3. A trunk tray for suspenders provided along one side with a series of button studs each consisting of a single vertical post to which the button strapsof suspenders may be buttoned, and a fastening device consisting of a strap 0 having slots 0 and the studs 0 at the opposite side of the tray to hold the EDWARD J. CUMMINGS.
