SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 488,566, dated December 27, 1892. Application filed April 8, 1892. Serial No. 428,397. (No model.)

To aZZ whom it may concern.-

Be it known that I, ELIAS B. KOOPMAN, of New York city, in the county and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Toys, of which the following is a specification.

My invention relates to toys and consists essentially of a rectangular box resembling, as closely as may be, the exterior of a photographic camera, in which is disposed a hollow rubber ball or bulb containing perfume, water, powder or similar matter and means for collapsing said ball for the purpose of ejecting its contents through a perforation in the end of said box.

To this end the invention further consists in the construction and combination of the several parts substantially as hereinafter described.

In the drawings. Figure 1 is a longitudinal vertical section of my improvement. Fig. 2, is a similar view of a portion of the toy illustrating'a modification. Fig. 3, is a similar view illustrating a further modification. Fig. 4, is an end view of Fig. 1.

Referring to the drawings in which similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts, A designates a rectangular box or case consisting of four sides a and ends a and a These sides may, if desired, be serrated or corrugated as at a in order to more closely imitate the external appearance of a photographic camera. The end piece 00 may, if desired, be made in the form of a slide and adapted to be raised and lowered in grooves or recesses in the sides a.

B designates a hollow ball or bulb constructed preferably of rubber, and having an orifice b, the walls of which are here shown as extending outwardly beyond the line of the periphery of the ball. 0 designates a tube adapted to fit snugly over the walls of said orifice, and, if desired can be secured to the same in any suitable manner.

D designates a sleeve provided with a longitudinal perforation d which flares outwardly at the inner end of said sleeve for the purpose of aiding in the adjustment of the tube 0 therein. This sleeve is secured in a perforation in the end of the box or case.

d designates a collar, preferably of metal,

which surrounds that portion of the sleeve D which extends outside the box.

If desired I may provide the box or case A with a block E which will fit within the interior of the box and be adapted to slide longitudinally therein as shown in Fig. 2. It

may be provided on each side With outwardly projecting portions adapted to be received in grooves or recesses e in the sides of the box or case.

To operate the toy, the ball or bulb B is filled with any suitable material such as per fume,water or powder. It is then placed in the box in such manner that the tube 0 will projectinto the perforationdin the sleeve D.

The block E is then placed in position and the slide a closed. When this is done and V 6 Fig. 3 which may be guided in vertical grooves or recesses 9 formed in the sides of the box or case A.

Having now described my invention, what I claim and desire to secure by Letters Patent is,

1. In a toy, the combination with a box or case, of a hollow ball or bulb, the interior of which communicates with the outside of said box or case and a block or slide for causing said ball or bulb to collapse, substantially as described.

2. In a toy the combination with a box or case of a hollow ball or bulb having an orifice, a tube 0, sleeve D and collar 01 and a block or slide for causing said ball or bulb to collapse, substantially as and for the purpose set forth. 1
