Description
UNITE STATES PATENT FFICE.
ROBERT GILKERSON KELSO, OF CLEVELAND, OHIO.
EAVES-TROUGH FASTEN ER.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 488,075, dated December 13, 1892. Application filed January 29, 1892. Serial No. 419,673. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that 1, ROBERT GILKERSON KELSO, a citizen of the United-States, residing at Cleveland, in the county of Ouyahoga and State of Ohio, have invented certain new and useful Im provements i n Eaves-Trough Fasteners; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled'in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
The special object of the invention is to make a hanger or fastener for eaves-troughs which shall be simple, strong, and little liable to get out of order.
The invention will first be described in connection With the drawings, and then pointed out in the claim.
Figure 1 of the drawings is a perspective view of the fastener on an eaves-trough. Figs. 2 and 3 are vertical transverse sections thereof, showing certain modifications.
In the drawings, A represents the eavestrough which has the turn or bead a on the outer edge.
B is a crossbar, which is curved at one end around the bead a, while the other end is formed with a groove 1), in which fits the in ner edge a, of the eaves-trough, the outer lip being provided with the cross-slot b.
O is a band going around the bead a, under the cross-bar, and around the body of the eaves-trough, one end being passed through the cross-bar slot 12 and bent down to make it fast, while the other end is carried a little beyond the middle of the crossbar and under it, where it is riveted to the cross-bar.
D is the roof-band, one of whose ends is secured to the middle of the cross-Darby arivet E, which also fastens the end of the eavestrough band C under it. The roof-band Dis bent so as to fit over the eaves of the roof and has holes d d, by which it may be nailed or otherwise made fast to the roof, or the roofband D may be made straight, as shown in Fig. 2 of the drawings, while the band C may be made to pass up through a slot in the cross-bar B and then over it, as well as over the head, as shown in Fig. 3 of the drawings.
Having thus described all that is necessary to a full understanding of myinventiomwhat I claim as new, and desire to protect by Letters Patent, is
An eaves-trough fastener consisting of the end-slotted cross-bar B, the band C, which passes around under the eaves-trough, and the roof-band D, the three pieces being held together by a rivet E on top and by the engagement of one end of the band C in the slot of cross-bar, substantially as shown and described.
In testimony whereof I affix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
ROBERT GILKERSON KELSO.
