Be it known that I, THOMAS J. KELLEY, a citizen of the United States, residing at Avenue City, in the county of Andrew and State of Missouri, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Portable or Knockdown Hay and Grain Sheds; and I do declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to the letters of reference marked thereon, which form a part of this specification.

The object of my improvements is to provide a cheap, easily-constructed, and strong portable device for protecting hay or grain in stack or rick. It may also be used to advantage while the hay or grain is on a wagon when a storm approaches suddenly; also, as a temporary shed for a variety of purposes. I attain these objects by the mechanism illustrated in the accompanying drawings, in whichi Figure 1 is a perspective view of my improved hay and grain shed. Fig. 2 shows the roof as it appears when closed. Fig. 3 is one of four tie-bars used in each frame. Fig. 4 is one of the four corner-posts of the shed.

In the construction of my device the rafters A B and C D are hinged at topjoint, as shown at E F. Stirrups H are secured to the lower ends of the rafters for engaging the upper ends of the corner-posts I I I I. The tie-bars K (shown in detail at Fig. 3) are provided with stirrups b at each end thereof for slipping over the posts I. These bars are prevented from working or sliding down to the ground by pins in posts I, as shown at M M M M, and the roof is securely protected from being lifted by cyclones or high winds by pins O O O O in posts I. The roof-boards are made to overlap and project over each end of the shed. They are secured to the rafters by nails, screws, or pins, as shown at P. Provision being made for the insertion of pins aty several corrcsponding points in upper ends of posts, the roof may be adjusted to height V desired.

The device is preferably constructed of lumber, and of any length, width, and height desired, the stirrups only being of metal.

It will be seen from the foregoing description that by simply withdrawing the pins the structure can be easily and quickly taken apart, transported from place to place, and easily again set up.

What I claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is- 1. A portable structure consisting of a hinged folding roof with rafters having Stirrups at lower ends for engaging four Vertical posts and four tie-bars with similar stirrups to engage posts, and pins to hold stirrups in place and for the purpose of adj usting height of roof, substantially as described, and for the' purposes specified.

2. A portable frame structure with folding roof having hinged rafters with stirrups at lower ends engaging upper ends of Vertical posts, and horizontal tie-bars having stirrups also engaging posts, with pins for holding tiebars and roof in place and adj usting height of roof, substantially as described.
