MILK STOOL.
No. 486,944. Patented Nov. 29, 1892.
STATES PATENT GFFICE.
RILEY W". SHAW, OF LAPEER, MICHIGAN.
MILK-STOOL.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 486,944, dated November 29, 1892.
Application filed June 13, 1892.
T0 on whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, RILEY W. SHAW, a citizen of the United States, residing at- Lapeer,
in the county of Lapeer and State of Michigan,
have invented a new and useful Milk-Stool, of which the following is a specification.
The invention relates to improvements in milk-stools.
The object of the present invention is to provide a simple and inexpensive milk-stool which will afford a seat for the milker, and which may be adjusted to receive pails of different sizes, and which will prevent a milkpail being upset or kicked over by a cow.
The invention consists in the construction and novel combination and arrangement of parts hereinafter fully described, illustrated in the accompanying drawings, and pointed out in the claims hereto appended.
In the drawings, Figure l is a perspective View of a milk-stool constructed in accordance with this invention. Fig. 2 is a longitudinal sectional view, a milk-pail being arranged on the support. F1g.3 isa horizontal sectional View of the pail-support.
Like numerals of reference indicate corresponding parts in all the figures of the drawlngs.
1 designates a seat supported by legs 2 and 3 and having its front end provided with a segmentalrecess 4, adapted to conform to the configuration of a milk-pail 5, which is supported on a vertically-movable pail-rest 6 and which is secured on the same by an expansible band 7, having its ends adjustably clamped to the front of the seat on opposite sides of the same, whereby a milk-pail is confined in the segmental recess. The expansible band, which is adapted to be adjusted to suit various sizes of milk pails or receptacles, is clamped on the upper face of the seat by hook-bolts 9, which pass through the seat and are secured by nuts 10, arranged on the lower face of the seat, and the said band is preferably constructed of round metal, as illustrated in the accompanying drawings.
The vertically-adjustable pail-support 6 consists of a frame supported at the front or outer end by a leg 11 and secured at the rear Serial No. 436,542. (No model.)
end to a horizontal bar 12, which is adj ustably secured to the front leg 3 by approximately- U- shaped clips 13, receiving the front legs and having their ends extended on the ends of the horizontal bar and secured to the same by bolts 14L. The frame is composed of r a block 15 and a metal strap 16, which is bent into an approximately},- rectangular shape, but which is rounded atits front end to conform to the rounded end of the block, and the ends of the strap are bent inward and secured to the horizontal bar.
It will thus be seen that the milking-stool is simple and comparatively inexpensive in construction, that it is adapted to be readily adjusted to suit the size of a pail, and that it will securely hold a pail to prevent the latter upsetting.
What I claim is 1. In a milking-stool, the combination of a seat, front and rear legs supporting the seat, an expansible pail-receivingband extending from the seat, a horizontal bar adjustably mounted on the front legs, and a pail-support comprising a frame secured to the bar, and a leg secured to the outer end of the frame, substantially as described.
2. The combination of a seat, front and rear legs supporting the seat, an expansible pail-receiving baud extending from the seat, a horizontal bar extending between the front legs, the approximately-U-shaped clips secured to the ends of the horizontal bar by bolts and receiving the front legs and adjustably clamping the horizontal bar to the front legs and a pail-support comprising a block,
a metal strap bent into an approximatelyrectangular shape and having its ends secured to the bar and receiving the block between its sides, andaleg secured to the block and arranged at the front end thereof, substantially as described.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing as my own I have hereto afiixed my signature in the presence of two witnesses.
RILEY W. SHAW. Witnesses:
W. H. BAILEY, T. E. WEST.
