To a whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, ALBERT MIoKEL GRAF, a citizen of the United States, residing at Carpenter, in the county of Clark and State 1 of South Dakota, have invented a new and j useful Milk-Pail Holder, of which the following is a specification.

This invention relates to milk-pail holders, and has for its object to provide for conven ience in receiving and removing a pail, to enl able the convenient support of the device j upon the thighs of the milker whereby the pail may be held in the usual manner, and to insure a snug engagement between the pail and the holder.

With these and other objects in view the present invention consists in the combination and arrangement of parts as will be hereinafter more fully described, shown in the accompanying drawings, and particularly pointed out in the appended claims, it being understood that changes in the form, proportion, size, and minor details may be made Wit 'n the scope of the claims without departing from the spirit or sacrificing any of the advantages of the invention.

In the drawings, Figure 1 is a perspective View of a milk-pail holder embodying the features of the present invention. Fig. 2 is an enlarged detail sectional view taken through one side of the device, a portion of a pail being sh own in dotted lines.

Like characters of reference designate corresponding parts in both figures of the drawings.

The present holder includes a substantially circular band 1 of a size to snugly embrace an ordinary milk-pail. At diametrically opposite points upon the band rise springclips 2, which terminate at their upper ends in hooks 3, which are inclined inwardly and downwardly so as to engage over the top edge of a pail, as shown in Fig. 2 of the draw ings. At the outer side of each clip there is a bowed or arched member 4, preferably of plate metal, which is bent to snugly embrace one of the thighs of the milker immediately above the knee.

In the present embodiment each clip 2 is formed from a wire which is folded interme diate of its ends and bent around the band, as at 5, to which the bent portions may be soldered, if desired. From the bends 5 the opposite side members or the wire are bowed outwardly so as to form a bracket 6, to the under side of which the part 4 is connected in any suitable manner-as, for instance, by staples or clips 7.

Braces 8 extend from the band to the upper portion of each clip 2 from opposite sides thereof, and other braces 9 extend downwardly from the band to the inner end of each seat member 4. Each member 2 is furthermore braced by a brace 10, rising from the adjacent seat 4 and preferably connected to the clip 2 at the point of connection between the latter and the braces 8.

In practice the band 1 is received between the legs with the seat members 4 embracing the thighs immediately above the knees, the pail being inserted downwardly through the band 1 and the spring-clips 3 forced out wardly and then permitted to snap inwardly, so as to have their hooked upper terminals 3 engage with the upper rim of the pail, whereby the latter and the holder will be snugly connected.

From the foregoing description it will be understood that the holder of the present invention is entirely complete in itself and separate from the pail, while at the same time it may be very conveniently applied to the pail and the latter removed therefrom. Ordinarily the pail and the holder will be assembled before the holder is put into use, as the pail can be conveniently carried by its bail or handle when the holder is upon the pail, and therefore it is not necessary to remove the holder when changing from one cow to an' other or when emptying the pail.

Having thus described the invention, what is claimed is- 1. A milk-pail holder comprising a pailembracing band, hooks rising from diametrically opposite portions of the band, diametrically opposite brackets carried by the band, arcuate seats carried by the under sides of the brackets with their inner ends projecting below the band, and braces between the inner ends of the seats and the band.

2. A milk-pail holder comprising a pailembracing band, hooks rising from diametrically opposite portions of the band, brackets carried by the band and projecting outwardly from the bottoms of the hooks, each hook and adjacent bracket being formed by a Wire having its intermediate portion wrapped around the band and its respective bracket, arcuate seats carried by the under sides of the brackets with their inner ends projecting below 5 tending between the band, and braces exthe inner ends of the seats and the band and also between the band and the hooks.
