Description
(No Model.)
H. G. KENNEDY. LADYS HANDKERGHIEF HOLDER.
No. 486,673. Patented Nov. 22, 1892.
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
HENRY CURTIS KENNEDY, OF PHILADELPHIA, PENNSYLVANIA.
LADYS HANDKERCHlEF-HOLDER.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 486,673, dated November 22, 1892.
Application filed July 13, 1892.
To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, HENRY OURTIs KEN- NEDY, a citizen of the United States, residing at Philadelphia, in the county of Philadelphia and State of Pennsylvania, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Ladies Handkerchief-Holders; and I do declare the following to beafull, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same, reference being bad to the accompanying drawings, and to the letters of reference marked thereon, which form a part of this specification.
This invention relates to certain new and useful improvements in ladies handkerchiefholders; and it has for its object to provide a simple and efficient device of the character named, which may be constructed of a single piece of wire, may be quickly and securely attached to the frontof a dress or other garment, and will serve to retain a handkerchief or other like article.
To these ends and to such others as the invention may pertain the same consists in the peculiar construction of the device, all as more fully hereinafter described, shown in the accompanying drawings, and then specifically defined in the appended claim.
The invention is fullyillustrated in the accompanying drawings, which, with the letters of reference marked thereon, form a part of this specification, and in which drawings Figure 1 is a perspective view of a handkerchief-holder embodying my invention, and Fig. 2 is a like view in which the device is shown as it appears when in use.
Reference now being had to the details of the drawings by letter, A designates the device, which is composed of a single piece of wire.
In constructing the device the ends of the wire are sharpened and the wire is then bent as No. 439,904. (No model.)
at its longitudinal center to form a loop B. The wire is turned upon itself at the point at which the loop portion is brought together, as shown at O, and from this point one end of the wire is carried a short distance beyond the loop and is bent to form the smaller loop D, and from this point the end D is extended to form a pin, as shown. The opposite end of the wire is extended from the opposite side of the loop B and is bent to form the catch or receiver for the pin-point E. This portion of the wire is then bent or coiled around the edge of the loop B, and the extreme end is bent upwardly, as shown at F.
In use the pin portion D is passed through a fold in the garment upon which the holder is to be used, and the point of the pin is sprung into the catch or holder E, thus securing the device to the garment. 'lhe handkerchief is passed through the loop B and is caught upon the upwardly-extending point F, which point serves to hold the handkerchief within the loop B and prevent it from being accidentally pulled out or from working from its place.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim to be new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
As an improved article of manufacture, a handkerchiefho der composed of a single piece of wire and comprising a retaining or safety pin and a loop integral with and depending from the bar of the safety-pin and twisted around the same with one end of the wire extending upwardly from said loop portion to form a pin between the bars of the safety-pin, substantially as shown and described.
In testimony whereof I afflx my signature in presence of two witnesses.
HENRY CURTIS KENNEDY.
Witnesses:
WILLIAM J. QUIGLEY, L. STERN.
