S. R. JACKSON. PLOW.
No. 485,941. Patented Nov. 8,1892.
W/TNESSES Z 394%; I I OBNEY.
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
SAMUEL R. J AOKSON, OF HUN TINGDON VALLEY, PENNSYLVANIA.
PLOW.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 485,941, dated November 8, 1892.
Applicationfiled February 8, 1892. Serial No. 420,653. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, SAMUEL R. J AOKSON, a citizen of the United States, residing at Hunt ingdon Valley, county of Montgomery, and State of Pennsylvania, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Plows, which improvement is fully set forth in the following specification and accompanying drawings.
My invention consists of improvements in plows, embodying an adjustable plowshare,an adjustable point, and a novel connection of the landside with the mold-board, as will be hereinafter set forth.
Figure 1 represents a perspective view of a portion of a plow embodying my invention. Fig. 2 represents a perspective view thereof taken from below, the parts being separated. Fig. 3 representsa section of a portion on line a: m, Fig. 1. Fig. 4 represents a bottom plan. Fig. 5 represents a perspective view taken from below, the plow-point being separated. Fig. 6 represents a section on line y y, Fig. 1. Fig. 7 represents a perspective view of a detached section of the landside.
Similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts in the several figures.
Referring to the drawings, A designates the mold-board of a plow, and B the landside; C, the plowshare; D, the plow-point, and E the standard thereof. The share 0 consists of a blade or plate which is provided with a series of openings Fnear each end to receive teats G on the bottom of the mold-board, the latter being widened to form a broad base for the share, it being evident that the share may be set out or adjusted as desired and then fitted on the teats G, after which the clamp H, formed of a suitable plate, is applied to the under side of the share and secured to the mold-board by bolts H, so that the share is firmly held in position. Both sides of the share are formed or shaped alike, (see Fig. 2,) so that the share may be reversed, either side being used, if desired.
The landsideBis formed of sections 13 B both of which are bolted to the standard E, the section 13 having its front portion B projected beyond the front edge A of the mold-board and formed near its lower end with a shoulder B against which the adja cent portion of the mold board abuts, thus bracing the section B of the landside against the mold-board and vice versa, and greatly strengthening the connection of said parts.
On the under side of the portion B, at the front end thereof, is a tongue J, on which is fitted the point D, the latter being longitudinally slotted to engage with said tongue, the walls of the slot and tongue forming double dovetailed joints, whereby the tongue may be removed, reversed, and reapplied. In the said walls are openings K K, into corresponding ones of which is fitted a key or bolt L, whereby the point is firmly held in position and provision made for setting the same outwardly as it is worn away.
In order to prevent the plowshare from being forced inwardly, the clamp H is formed with a shoulder H on its inner end, the same being adapted to have the share abut against the same, as most clearly shown in Fig. 3.
The rear end of the pointD is formed with shoulders D, one of the latter engaging with the bottom of the standard E, while the opposite part bears against the clamp H, so as to assist in holding the same, as will be seen in Fig. 4.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
1. A plow having a reversible share provided near each of its ends with a series of openings, a mold-board with teats adapted to enter openings in each of said series, a clamping-plate with a shoulder engaging a shoulder on the mold-board, and means for connecting said plate and mold-board, said parts being combined substantially as described.
2. A plow having a standard, a sectional landside having each of its sections connected therewith, and a mold-board, one of said sections projecting beyond the front of the moldboard and provided with a shoulder against which the mold-board abuts, said parts being combined substantially as described.
3. A plow having a landside with a tongue on its under side and a plow-point having a longitudinally slotted end to embrace said tongue, the walls of said tongue and slot to the opening in the tongue, and a key fitforming double dovetail joints, forming a reting in said openings, said parts being comve'rsible point, substantially as described. bined. substantially as described.
4. A plow having a landside with a tongue SAMUEL R. JACKSON. 5 on its under side having an Opening therein, Witnesses: and a plow-point with slotted end having in JOHN A. WIEDERSHEIM,
the walls thereof an opening corresponding A. 1-. JENNINGS.
