Description

UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
SALOMON -HEIMANN, OF NEW YORK, N. Y., ASSIGNOR TO EDWARD B. AMEND, OF SAME PLACE.
LU BRICANT.
. SPECIFICATION formingpart of Letters Patent No. 484,635, dated October 18, 1892.
Application filed May 12, 1892. Serial No. 432.804. (No specimens.)
To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, SALOMON HEIMANN, a citizen of Germany, residing at New York, in the county of New York and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Composition of Matter; and I do declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
The object of my invention is to provide a new and improved composition of matter adapted for use as a lubricant for insulating purposes and other uses.
My improved composition consists of the following substances or the equivalents in about the following proportions, to wit: sulphate of magnesia, twenty parts, by weight; hydrocarbon jelly, thirty parts, by weight; Water-glass, twenty parts, by weight; glycerine, from two to five parts, by weight; talc, twenty-five parts, by weight.
The sulphate of magnesia, finely pulverized, is mixed with the glycerine, and then the hydrocarbon jellysuch as Vaseline-is mixed thoroughly therewith, preferably by a grind- 7 ing operation. Then the tale, which gives the composition body, is added, and finally the water-glass, and the entire mass worked and stirred until all the ingredients are thoroughly mixed. Any suitable color may be added.
This composition is an excellent lubricant, as it is incombustible, and is an excellent insulator, as it is fireproof, waterproof, and always remains plastic and flexible. The Vaseline and petroleum jelly are water-repellents and lubricants and the magnesia and water-glass are fireproof.
Having thus fully described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent-- A composition of matter for lubricating, insulating, and other purposes, composed of powdered magnesia, hydrocarbon jelly, water glass, glycerine, and tale, about in the same proportion given, substantially as set forth.
In testimony whereof I afiix my signature in presence of two Witnesses.
SALOMON HEIMANN- Witnesses:
OSCAR F. GUNz, MARION HALL.
